Advocacy Success!
WestJet will soon be flying out of the
Lloydminster Airport!

This comes as WestJet announced WestJet Link which will be using Pacific Coastal Airlines’ aircraft. It will connect the Lloydminster Airport to the Calgary International Airport.

The Chamber has been advocating on increased flights and air service out of the Lloydminster airport to accommodate business and economic growth in our community. We commend the Lloydminster airport and City of Lloydminster for their hard work in upgrading the Lloyd airport and recruiting WestJet.

PST Expansion Feedback
The government is attempting to assess the impact of the PST on the economy and consumer behaviour. Industry needs to take the lead in informing the government.

The Ministry of Finance has asked the SCA for any information or specific data that demonstrates the effects of the 2017 decision to expand the PST – from initial investment decisions to in-project changes.

A survey was recently sent out to Construction Association members asking them to provide examples of business decisions, behaviours, and practices that have changed as a result, even in part, of the PST.

The Chamber will keep on top of this issue and pass on any new information regarding the results of the survey.

NAFTA Update
The Canadian Chamber's Director of International Affairs Adriana Vega recently travelled to Mexico on the margins of the NAFTA Round 5 of negotiations. While in Mexico City, along with other Chamber members on-site, we met with the Chief Trade Negotiator Steve Verheul as well as with business and government stakeholders from all three countries.

Representing the Canadian Services Coalition, we also participated in a trilateral roundtable with the Coalition of Services Industries (U.S.) and Mexico’s CANIETI (Mexico’s national chamber for the telecoms and information technology sectors).
