Regeneron Founders Plan to Assume Additional Roles


The founders of Tarrytown-based Regeneron, Leonard Schleifer and George Yancopoulos, are expected to become co-chairs of the company’s Board of Directors after the company’s annual meeting on June 9. 


Long-term incumbent Dr. Roy Vagelos will retire from his role as chairman of US biotech Regeneron Pharmaceuticals’ board of directors and will not stand for re-election. Dr. Vagelos has served as chairman since January 1995 and will complete his current term through the conclusion of the Annual Meeting on June 9, 2023.

Cognition Therapeutics to Present Analysis Showing Impact of CT1812 on Pathways Implicated in Dry Age-related Macular Degeneration at ARVO 2023


Purchase’s Cognition Therapeutics, Inc. will be presenting in vitro results characterizing the role of sigma-2 (σ-2) receptors and effect of CT1812 in cell-based models of dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD). CT1812 is an experimental orally delivered, small molecule drug candidate that binds to σ-2 receptors, which have been shown to regulate key cellular processes involved in age-related degenerative diseases.

WCBA Cohort Member Wins Third Place in

Millard Chan Technology Challenge


Neetika Ashwani, MPH, a member of the Westchester County Biosciences Accelerator's 2023 cohort, recently won third place at the Columbia Venture Competition's Millard Chan Technology Challenge. Her venture, KRIASH, is a wearable device that keeps track of vitals (heart rate, respiratory rate, saturation, temperature) and contact duration in newborns to reduce neonatal morbidity and mortality.

WCBA Cohort Member Launches Boutique Fertility Consultancy


Justine Witzke, a member of the Westchester County Biosciences Accelerator's 2023 cohort, has launched Aligneage Fertility, a boutique, human-centered sperm bank and fertility consultancy. The mission of Aligneage Fertility is to provide high-quality, equitably accessible, compassionate, personalized, and evidence-based andrology services, sperm donor screening procedures, fertility guidance, and industry-specific consulting. 


Patient consultations and educational seminars as well as staff training and business-to-business consulting are available now, and laboratory and clinical services are expected to be available Summer 2023.
