Westchester County Office of Economic Development Hosts New York City Life Sciences & Economic Development Executives for Exclusive Tour of Center of Industry Excellence


The Westchester County Office of Economic Development (OED) hosted an exclusive tour of the County’s dynamic life sciences cluster for members of New York City’s economic development and life sciences community. The tour, which featured speakers from BioInc@NYMC, Burke Neurological Institute, Clarapath, Leviant, New York Medical College, Regeneron, Retia Medical, Sapience Therapeutics, Westchester County Biosciences Accelerator and Westchester Medical Center, provided guests an opportunity to meet the groundbreakers and innovators who are driving Westchester’s life sciences sector forward.


Home to 200+ ventures and 20% of New York State’s private life sciences employment, Westchester County is where life sciences works.

The Westchester County Biosciences Accelerator Pitch Day 2023 returns in-person to the Florence Gould Theater in New York City on May 11. This annual event features pitches and presentations from 23 ventures from both the WCBA and the ABCT life sciences accelerator programs. This year's event will also feature a panel of distinguished alums who will share their work changing care within biosciences.

Sapience Therapeutics Awarded $2 Million SBIR Grant


Sapience Therapeutics, Inc., a clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on the discovery and development of peptide therapeutics to address oncogenic and immune dysregulation that drive cancer, announced that it was awarded a $2 million, two-year Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The proposed non-clinical studies will investigate pharmacodynamic biomarkers for ST316, a first-in-class β-catenin antagonist, and evaluate the impact of ST316 on the tumor microenvironment (TME) in patient-derived cancer models. 

WCBA Alum Awarded $10,000 in

StartUp Columbia Challenge


Ophy Care, an alum of the 2022 cohort of the Westchester County Biosciences Accelerator, was recently awarded $10,000 from Columbia University's StartUp Columbia Challenge.


The StartUp Columbia Challenge is a venture competition for Columbia University students and recent alumni sponsored by Columbia Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and Design. More than 60 teams participate in the competition, out of which only three made it to the final round after 5 rounds of pitching to various judges. Winning the StartUp Columbia Challenge means Ophy Care has now secured more than $75k in non-dilutive funding from Columbia University.

Regeneron to Highlight New and Updated Clinical Data at ASCO Showcasing Breadth of Cancer Research


Greenburgh's Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. announced the presentation of new and updated data from its diverse oncology and hematology pipeline at the 2023 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting, taking place from June 2-6 in Chicago, IL. Data presentations from 10 abstracts will include insights on four approved or investigational treatment regimens, showcasing the expanding potential of Regeneron’s portfolio and commitment to harnessing combination approaches to address the unmet need of patients with difficult-to-treat cancers.

WCBA Participant to Attend Leading Science Workshop


Chris Buser, member of the current Westchester County Biosciences Accelerator cohort and founder of BioCubic, has been accepted to participate in the National Science Foundation's "Building Bridges to Use-Inspired Research and Science-Informed Practices" in-person workshop this week in Boise, ID.


BioCubic makes inexpensive, nanoscale tissue imaging data accessible to customers in discovery, clinical research, and diagnostics, enabling earlier and more precise diagnosis of diseases.
