What Clinicians Need to Know Series: Substance Use

We are pleased to share archives of the first five trainings from the What Clinicians Need to Know series. This series is supported through a Westchester County Opioid Settlement Treatment Grant awarded to Westchester Jewish Community Services. The content is intended to support all clinicians, including therapists and psychiatric providers, in treating substance use and co-occurring disorders by providing an overview of substances of misuse, their intoxication and withdrawal symptoms, their interactions with other mental health diagnoses, and their treatment.


Each archived training offers 1.5 hours of CASAC, LMHC, Psychology, and Social Work continuing education.

About the Trainers:

  • John Douglas, M.D., M.B.A., M.S. is the Medical Director for WJCS’ Behavioral Health Clinics and is board-certified in psychiatry, addiction psychiatry, and addiction medicine. He has significant interest, experience, and expertise in the treatment of substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders and brings these strengths to his training.
  • Nicholas Batson, M.D., M.M.M., is the Senior Medical Director for Crystal Run Healthcare and is board-certified in neurology, addiction medicine, and adolescent psychiatry. He has a strong interest in the treatment of mental health and substance use disorders, including co-occurring disorders.
