With Gratitude: Shoutout to Tony and Pedro for Their Kindness!
This is a long-overdue recognition, and thank you. I want to say a big “thank you” to my kind next-door neighbors, Tony Torres, and his son-in-law, Pedro, for collecting my recycling and trash bins from the curb so many times over the last year and longer!
After I took a bad fall and suffered a broken leg, they began bringing my bins back from the curb, without even mentioning it, and leaving them right by my garage door. Although I’m once again able to do it myself (with a bit of a limp), one of them almost always beats me to it! I feel quite blessed to have such kind and helpful neighbors.
THANK YOU, TONY AND PEDRO!

GOT A NEIGHBOR YOU WANT TO RECOGNIZE?
Remember that neighbors don’t have to live next door, just someone who lives in Westcreek. It could be as simple as a mom who helps out by picking up a child from school, a neighbor who cuts your yard for you just because, or brings in your trash cans. It does not have to be a grand gesture, just something that made your life easier, made you happy, or was just thoughtful.
If you would like to recognize their good deeds and show your appreciation, please submit your recommendation by a deadline of the 20th day of the month prior to publication to: frontoffice@villagesofwestcreek.com.

| | SAVE OUR OAK TREES: A VITAL CALL TO ACTION | |
As you navigate through our beloved community, you may have observed the troubling decline of our majestic oak trees, many of which are succumbing to a deadly disease known as Oak Wilt. This affliction not only detracts from the beauty of our landscapes but also threatens the delicate balance of our ecosystem. It is imperative for us, as responsible residents, to recognize the importance of protecting these iconic trees in our yards and neighborhoods.
To shed light on the severity of Oak Wilt and its impact, we consulted with Elizabeth Nyawo, a Woodland Ecologist from the Texas A&M Forest Service. Her insights underline the critical role of community awareness and individual action in addressing this urgent concern. If you have any questions or need guidance regarding the health of your oak trees or how to remove an affected tree that has died, do not hesitate to reach out to Elizabeth:
Office: 830-792-8885
Cell: 830-777-9066
Email: Elizabeth.Nyawo@tfs.tamu.edu
As caretakers of our environment, it is our collective responsibility to take proactive measures in safeguarding the oak trees that enrich our community. By working together, we can preserve these natural treasures and ensure that future generations can enjoy the myriad benefits they provide. Let’s unite in our commitment to protect our oak trees and secure the future of our community’s natural heritage.

JUNCTION, TEXAS
Junction,Texas is located in the Texas Hill Country where the North and South Llano Rivers merge. It’s also at the intersections of Highways 83/377 and Interstate 10, or just over 100 miles from the Villages of Westcreek.
This is a small, rural town, but the outdoor possibilities are endless. River recreation draws many visitors for camping, fishing (bass, catfish and perch), fly fishing, kayaking, canoeing, tubing, stargazing, and simply relaxing. The South Llano River State Park and paddling trail are well-known spots for scenic photos. Hunting is available year-round; short- and long-term leases are available. If you like birding, more than 150 bird species may be seen either on the South Llano River State Park or the Buck Area during different periods of the year.
In 2017, the South Llano River State Park became “Dark Sky Approved” by the International Dark Sky Association. It ranks 3 on the Bortle Scale (ranks skies 1 to 9, with 1 being the darkest skies). The Texas Parks and Wildlife website has a variety of interactive resources to make the most of stargazing experiences.

Disc golf is another favorite local activity. The Sizzler Disc Golf (PDGA) Tournament was held the last weekend of July. But disc golf players are always welcome to enjoy the beautiful course.
Upcoming events include the annual Junction Rodeo (Aug. 8-9) and Junction’s 56th Annual Kow Kick (Aug. 31), a family fun festival with BBQ cookoff, live music, dance, and kids’ activities. In February, they also have TSDA Sanctioned Sheep Dog Trials.
If you are looking for a relaxing day or overnight trip, check out this town. For more, visit www.cityofjunction.com

FREE ITEMS ON THE CURB
Just a little friendly reminder that leaving free, unwanted items on the curb or sidewalk isn’t allowed according to the Standards for Architectural Design and Property Maintenance. The reason for this is to keep our walkways safe and clear for everyone.
But no worries! There are lots of great options you can explore! You can request a curbside pickup, hire a private hauler, or take care of your trash and garbage yourself. Plus, if you have any usable household items, consider donating them to a local organization or even hosting a fun yard or garage sale! These alternatives not only help keep our community safe but also ensure we’re all following the guidelines. Thanks for understanding!
Standards Reference: Article 8.4.3
If you have any questions regarding the Standards, please email the Front Office at FrontOffice@villagesofwestcreek.com or call the VWOA Office at 210-679-8761.

As the summer days come to a close, it's important to remember that school will be back in session soon. With the start of the school year, residents of the Villages of Westcreek need to take extra precautions when driving through school zones.
School zones are designed to ensure the safety of our children as they walk or bike to school. These zones are marked with special signs and are typically located near schools or other areas where children are likely to be present.
When driving through a school zone, it's important to slow down and be aware of your surroundings. Keep an eye out for children crossing the street or walking along the sidewalk. Avoid distractions such as cell phones or loud music, and be prepared to stop at any time.
Remember, it's not just the speed limit that's important in school zones. You should also pay attention to other rules of the road, such as stopping for school buses with flashing lights and yielding to pedestrians in crosswalks.
By following these simple tips, you can help keep our children safe as they head back to school this fall. Let's work together to make the Villages of Westcreek a safe community for all.
