Veterans Day is observed on November 11th every year to honor all veterans, past and present, for their service and sacrifices to protect our country's freedom and way of life. We encourage displaying the American flag on this day to show support for our veterans in the Villages of Westcreek. By displaying the flag, we can express our gratitude for their service and sacrifices. Other ways to honor our veterans include attending a local Veterans Day ceremony, visiting a veterans' hospital or nursing home, or thanking a veteran for their service.
Let's make Veterans Day a day to remember and show our veterans that their sacrifice and service are not forgotten. Together, we can honor their legacy and continue to uphold the values they fought to protect.

I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude to the elderly gentleman in the reflective vest for your efforts in keeping our neighborhood clean. I have seen you picking up trash along Westcreek View and on Saxonhill several times, and I appreciate your hard work.
As someone who doesn't know you personally, it's heartwarming to see your dedication to keeping our streets clean. Your deeds do not go unnoticed and make a big difference in our community. I hope you'll see this message and know you're doing great.
Thank you for everything you do, and please keep up the great work.

GOT A NEIGHBOR YOU WANT TO RECOGNIZE?
Remember that neighbors don’t have to live next door, just someone who lives in Westcreek. It could be as simple as a mom who helps out by picking up a child from school, a neighbor who cuts your yard for you just because, or brings in your trash cans. It does not have to be a grand gesture, just something that made your life easier, made you happy, or was just thoughtful.
If you would like to recognize their good deeds and show your appreciation, please submit your recommendation by a deadline of the 20th day of the month prior to publication to: frontoffice@villagesofwestcreek.com.

The Villages of Westcreek Owners Association (VWOA) Board recently approved the 2024 Operating Budget in an open board meeting held on September 21st. After considering input from homeowners in attendance, the Board agreed on a 10% increase in assessments aimed at maintaining funding levels in the Reserve accounts and supporting existing amenities while saving for future capital improvement projects.
Given the community's age of over 36 years, a need has arisen to replace, repair, and upgrade various amenities. These include visible upgrades such as landscaping, lighting, and monument upgrades, as well as repairs or upgrades to the park, community center, and pools. There are also some less visible upgrades such as landscape irrigation, computer software upgrades, and common area upkeep expenses, including green spaces, fence staining, and cleaning up illegal dumping or homeless encampments.
The new assessment amount will now be $118.80 a quarter ($475.20 per year). This increase will put the Association in the best financial position it has been in for many years, and the Board does not anticipate raising assessments again in the near future. The new assessment amount will take effect from January 1, 2024. If your assessments are set to autopay through your bank or the SpectrumAM Homeowner Portal, make sure to adjust the amount to avoid any late fees due to unpaid assessments.
As a reminder, homeowners can access all HOA financials, budgets, and the Reserve Study through their Spectrum Homeowner portal.

As I was browsing through our website, I couldn't help but notice the phrase "A Family Centered Community." These words are not just a mere slogan on our website banner; they represent a core value that shapes everything we do in the Villages of Westcreek.
At the heart of this value is our deep respect and appreciation for families. We understand that families are the backbone of our community, and we prioritize family-friendly amenities and activities for all ages. Our parks, playgrounds, and community events are designed to bring families together and foster a sense of community.
However, building a family-centered community requires more than just providing amenities. We also need to create a safe and welcoming environment for everyone. This means investing in measures like neighborhood watch programs and community policing initiatives to ensure families feel secure in their homes and neighborhoods.
Above all, we must work to build a sense of community and connection among families. By organizing regular neighborhood gatherings and creating online groups and forums, we can foster a sense of belonging and support.
As a united community, we are committed to improving communication with our members and keeping them informed and educated about the challenges we face. Our goal is to establish a family-centered community in the Villages of Westcreek, and we can achieve it by working together and renewing our commitment to this objective.
Now is the time that we prioritize families and build a community that will continue to grow and thrive for generations to come. Let us renew our commitment to creating a family-centered community.

As a homeowner in the Villages of Westcreek, it's essential to understand our Homeowners Association's (HOA) financial health. The budget is crucial to this puzzle, as it covers our revenues and expenses. It serves as a roadmap for how our HOA will operate financially throughout the year.
To ensure transparency and accountability, our association conducts annual audits. This is to ensure that our financial records are accurate and up-to-date. It's important to note that an independent third-party auditor conducts these audits to maintain objectivity and integrity.
The difference between the Reserve and Capital Improvement funds is a critical aspect of the budget. These funds are used for different purposes.
- The Reserve fund is set aside for unexpected expenses or emergencies, such as major repairs or natural disasters.
- The Capital Improvement Funds are used for planned projects and upgrades, such as renovating the community pool or repaving roads.
To keep all homeowners informed, monthly financial reports are presented at each Board of Directors meeting, and once approved, they are uploaded to the Spectrum Homeowners Portal in the document section. This lets homeowners stay up-to-date on our HOA's financial health and clearly understand where their fees are allocated. We encourage you to attend these meetings so you can ask questions about the reports.
In conclusion, understanding the financial health of our HOA is critical to maintaining a thriving community. By familiarizing ourselves with the budget, annual audits, and reserve and capital improvement funds, we can ensure that our HOA operates efficiently and effectively.

As a resident of the Villages of Westcreek, you know firsthand how wonderful it is to be a part of such a close-knit community. That's why welcoming new neighbors to our little slice of paradise is important! Here are some tips for making newcomers feel at home:
1. Introduce yourself: One of the easiest ways to make new neighbors feel welcome is to introduce yourself. Make it a point to say hello and offer your assistance if they need anything. A friendly smile and a kind word can go a long way in making someone feel at home.
2. Offer a tour: If your new neighbor is interested in learning more about the community, offer to take them on a tour. Show them the local parks, restaurants, and shops. Share your favorite spots and insider tips on the best places to go. This will help them feel more comfortable and connected to their new home.
3. Host a welcome party: Consider hosting a welcome party for your new neighbor. This can be a great way to introduce them to other residents and help them feel more connected to the community. You can keep things simple with a potluck or BBQ or go all out with decorations and games.
4. Share information: Ensure your new neighbor has all the information they need to settle in their new home. Provide them with a list of important phone numbers and local resources, such as the nearest grocery store and library. You can also share information on local events and activities, such as community festivals and volunteer opportunities.
5. Be patient and understanding: Moving to a new place can be overwhelming, so be patient and understanding with your new neighbor. Offer your support and let them know that they can come to you if they need anything. This will help them feel more at ease and welcome in their new home.
By following these tips, you can help new neighbors feel at home in the Villages of Westcreek. Remember, a little kindness goes a long way in creating a welcoming and supportive community.

We understand that kids love to play and have fun, but we kindly request parents' help in ensuring the safety and longevity of our playground equipment.
One concern we have is that kids are putting rocks, dirt, and mulch in the water fountains, which clogs them up and causes damage to the pipes. Because of this, we have had to turn off the fountains on multiple occasions and spend hundreds of dollars on repairs. We kindly request that parents educate their children on the importance of keeping the water fountains clean and avoiding any actions that could cause damage to the equipment.
We also recently repaired the soft play mat on the ground, and we need parents' help to make sure kids do not pull or tear away at the new material. This is extremely expensive to replace and cannot be effectively patched. So, if you see children pulling at the mat, kindly ask them not to do so.
Another important request is to not allow children to stand in the ADA swing. This swing is specifically created to allow for children in our community with disabilities to enjoy our playground too, and we appreciate your help in ensuring that it is used appropriately.
As your child grows older, it may be tempting to let them explore the Tot Lot on their own. However, we advise parents to remember that the play equipment is designed for younger children and may not be suitable for older kids. Older kids using the Tot Lot can create safety hazards for both themselves and younger children. They may climb on the equipment in ways that it wasn't intended for or play too roughly, leading to accidents and injuries.
To keep your child safe, it's important to supervise them closely when they're playing on the equipment. Ensure they're using it in a safe and appropriate way for their age and size. Encourage them to be mindful of younger children who may be using the equipment and to play in a way that doesn't put others at risk. Additionally, please talk to your child about the importance of following the rules and guidelines posted at the Tot Lot. Remind them not to climb on equipment not designed for their age range and avoid running or playing too roughly.
We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe and enjoyable playground for all the children in our community.

CHIMNEY CLEANING BEFORE THE HOLIDAYS
As the holiday season approaches, many homeowners start thinking about preparing their homes for gatherings with family and friends. One important aspect of home maintenance that often gets overlooked is chimney cleaning.
Having your chimney cleaned before the holidays is a smart choice for several reasons. First and foremost, it ensures that your fireplace is safe to use. Over time, creosote and other debris can build up in the chimney and increase the risk of a fire. A professional chimney sweep can remove this buildup and inspect the chimney for any potential hazards.
Clean chimneys also improve the efficiency of your fireplace. A buildup in the chimney can impede the flow of air and cause smoke to back up into your home. This not only creates a mess but can also be harmful to your health. A clean chimney ensures that smoke is properly vented outside, keeping indoor air quality safe and healthy.
In addition to safety and efficiency, having your chimney cleaned can also extend the life of your fireplace. When debris is allowed to accumulate in the chimney, it can cause damage to the flue lining and other components. Regular cleaning can prevent costly repairs down the road.
Overall, having your chimney cleaned before the holidays is a smart investment in your fireplace's safety, efficiency, and longevity. Contact a professional chimney sweep today to schedule your cleaning and enjoy a worry-free holiday season.

Are you concerned about the safety of your neighborhood in Westcreek? Starting a Neighborhood Watch program can be an effective way to promote safety and community within your area. By working together to watch out for each other and communicate with local law enforcement, you can help make your neighborhood a safer place to live. Here are the steps you can follow to start a Neighborhood Watch program:
1. Determine interest: Begin by talking to your neighbors about the benefits of a Neighborhood Watch program and see if they are interested in participating. You can start by chatting with neighbors in person or by creating a social media group for the block.
2. Contact local law enforcement: Reach out to the Bexar County Sheriff's Office to let them know about your plans to create a Neighborhood Watch program. They can offer guidance and support to help you get started and may even be able to attend your first meeting to answer questions and provide information.
3. Hold an initial meeting: Schedule a meeting with interested neighbors to discuss the program and establish goals and expectations. This is a great time to discuss patrol schedules, communication methods, and assign roles and responsibilities.
4. Establish communication channels: Communication is key to the success of your Neighborhood Watch program. Establish communication channels such as a phone tree or social media group to keep everyone informed about suspicious activity or safety concerns.
5. Organize training: Work with the Bexar County Sheriff's Office to organize training sessions for your Neighborhood Watch members. They can teach you about crime prevention techniques, how to report suspicious activity, and how to communicate with law enforcement.
6. Stay active: To have a successful Neighborhood Watch program, it's important to stay active and engaged. Hold regular meetings, communicate regularly with your neighbors, and continue to work with your local law enforcement to ensure the safety of your community.
Remember, the success of your Neighborhood Watch program depends on the involvement of your neighbors. Encourage your neighbors to participate and work together to create a safer, more connected community in Westcreek.
For more information, you can visit the Bexar County Sheriff's Office Crime Prevention website at https://www.bexar.org/771/Crime-Prevention-Programs. With a little effort and community spirit, you can help make a positive impact on your neighborhood.

Outdoor security cameras are a great way to enhance the security of your home and keep an eye on your property. However, selecting the right camera for low-light conditions can be a challenge. In this article, we'll discuss some key features you should look for when researching the correct camera for your home.
1. Image Sensor: The image sensor is the most important feature to consider when selecting a security camera for low light conditions. A good camera should have a large image sensor, which captures more light and produces better image quality. Look for cameras with a 1/2.8 inch or larger sensor size.
2. Resolution: The resolution of the camera determines the clarity of the image. Higher resolution cameras produce better quality images, even in low light conditions. Look for cameras with at least 1080p resolution, but 4K is even better.
3. Lens: The lens is another important factor to consider when selecting a camera for low light conditions. Look for a camera with a low aperture lens, which allows more light to enter the sensor. A lens with an aperture of f/1.4 or lower is ideal for low-light conditions.
4. Infrared Illumination: Infrared illumination is a feature that allows the camera to "see" in the dark. Look for cameras with infrared LEDs, which emit light that is invisible to the human eye but can be captured by the camera. This feature is essential for capturing clear images in complete darkness.
5. Wide Dynamic Range: Wide dynamic range (WDR) is a feature that allows the camera to capture images in both bright and dark areas of the scene. This is important for outdoor cameras, as it allows the camera to capture clear images even in bright sunlight or when there are shadows.
6. Weatherproofing: Finally, make sure the camera you select is weatherproof. Look for cameras with an IP rating of 65 or higher, which means they are dust-tight and can withstand heavy rain and water jets.
In conclusion, selecting the right outdoor security camera for low light conditions requires careful consideration of several key features, including image sensor size, resolution, lens aperture, infrared illumination, wide dynamic range, and weatherproofing. By choosing a camera with these features, you'll be able to enjoy clear, high-quality images of your property, even in the darkest of conditions.

OUTDOOR KITCHENS
Staying updated on the latest home improvement standards is important as we head into the fall season. One area to pay attention to is the new standards for outdoor kitchens. An outdoor kitchen is a great way to expand your living space and entertain guests, but it's important to follow the rules and regulations set forth by your local authorities.
According to the new standards, outdoor kitchens must be placed behind the dwelling and not on the side setbacks. Additionally, homeowners must submit a detailed plan/rendering showing the finished kitchen, including colored photos of materials and all dimensions of the improvement.
Regarding size limitations, the standards vary by design, so it's important to consult a professional to ensure your outdoor kitchen meets the requirements. Materials and color are also closely monitored, as they must complement the dwelling.
Following these new standards ensures that your outdoor kitchen is safe, functional, and visually appealing. So, if you're considering adding an outdoor kitchen to your home, be sure to do your research and get the necessary approvals before starting your project.

Hoarding is a serious problem that affects many individuals in Bexar County, Texas. It can start innocuously enough, with a person accumulating a few too many items in their home, but it can quickly spiral out of control. Before the individual knows it, they are surrounded by stacks of clutter that make it difficult to move around their home. This can lead to serious safety hazards and a negative impact on their mental health.
If you or someone you know is struggling with hoarding, it is important to seek help. The first step is recognizing that hoarding is a problem and reaching out to a professional for assistance. There are many organizations and support groups in Bexar County that are dedicated to helping hoarders get the help they need.
One such organization is the Bexar County SMART Team. This task force comprises professionals from various fields, including mental health, public health, animal control, and law enforcement. Their goal is to provide education, resources, and support to hoarders and their families.
If you are a friend or family member of a hoarder, it is important to approach the situation with compassion and understanding. Hoarding is a complex issue, and it can be difficult for hoarders to let go of their possessions. Encourage them to seek help and offer your support as they navigate the process.

ELECTRONIC RECYCLING
The WHY
The landfills are filling up with all kinds of trash as you are reading, including an exorbitant amount of electronics. There lies the danger for our environment. From cell phones to low grade scrap, the metals used in them are of great concern. The list of these metals is not only long, but hazardous: copper, lead, gold, palladium, silver, beryllium, arsenic, mercury, antimony, and cadmium. Almost all electronic devices are operated by a Printed Circuit Board or PCB, using most, if not all, of the metals mentioned. Recycling decreases the demand for mining more natural resources while allowing those available to be reused in a responsible and environmentally friendly way as most electronic devices are 100% recyclable.
The WHERE
In our San Antonio area there are a few reliable sources for recycling electronics.

Hiring a contractor in the state of Texas for home repairs, maintenance, or remodeling projects can be a daunting task. You want to ensure that you hire a reliable, skilled, and trustworthy contractor. Here are some tips on how to vet a contractor before hiring them.
1. Check their credentials: In Texas, a reputable contractor should have a license and insurance. You can check their license status with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) by visiting their website at https://www.tdlr.texas.gov/ and searching for the contractor's name or license number. You can also verify their insurance coverage with their insurance carrier.
2. Look at their portfolio: Ask the contractor to provide you with a portfolio of their previous work. This will give you an idea of their style and the quality of their work.
3. Read reviews: Look for reviews of the contractor online. Check websites such as Yelp, Google, and Angie's List. You can also ask the contractor for references from previous clients.
4. Get multiple quotes: Get quotes from at least three different contractors. This will help you determine if the quotes are in line with what is expected for the job.
5. Ask for a written contract: A written contract should include the scope of work, timeline, payment schedule, and any warranties or guarantees.
6. Communicate clearly: Make sure you communicate your expectations clearly with the contractor. This will help avoid any misunderstandings or surprises during the project.
By following these tips, you can ensure that you hire a reputable contractor for your home repair, maintenance, or remodeling project in Texas. Remember to take your time and do your research before making a decision.
Good luck with your project!

It won't be long before we start saying, "Baby, it's Cold Outside." Preparing your landscape for the colder temperatures in San Antonio, Texas, is important as winter approaches. Here are some tips to ensure your outdoor space stays healthy and beautiful throughout winter.
1. Water your plants: During winter, the soil tends to dry out due to less rainfall, which can cause your plants to suffer. To prevent this, water your plants deeply before the first freeze. Be sure not to over-water them as this can cause damage as well.
2. Mulch your garden beds: Mulching is an excellent way to protect your plants from the harsh winter weather. Spread a layer of mulch around your garden beds to help insulate the soil and prevent it from freezing. This will also help retain moisture in the soil.
3. Trim your trees and shrubs: Trim back any dead or diseased branches on your trees and shrubs. This will help prevent damage from heavy snow or ice accumulation. Additionally, pruning can promote healthy growth in the spring.
4. Clean up your yard: Rake up any fallen leaves, twigs, or debris in your yard. This will prevent them from suffocating your grass or causing damage to your outdoor space.
5. Cover your plants: Consider covering them with burlap or frost cloth for more delicate plants. This will help protect them from frost and prevent them from drying out.
By following these simple tips, you can ensure your landscape in San Antonio, Texas, stays healthy and beautiful throughout winter. Remember to take care of your outdoor space, and it will reward you with a lush and vibrant landscape in the spring.

Dear Villages of Westcreek Neighbors and Participants in our Sports Program,
We appreciate your support and understanding of our Sports programs and would like to provide you with a detailed update on the progress of our soccer fields.
As you may know, the SAWS pipeline project is nearing completion, but we still have some items left on their Punch List. Specifically, we are working on Field 8, where we are removing rocks and laying sod or seeds to ensure a safe and enjoyable playing experience for our players.
During the project, we were unable to use irrigation at the park, which led to a detrimental effect on all fields. When we finally had the sod laid and could irrigate, we discovered several broken heads and lines, which we promptly repaired to ensure proper irrigation.
Unfortunately, we have also endured an extreme drought for months now, and we are under the same restrictions as everyone else. We have been granted a couple of hours of watering time one day a week, which is a painfully slow process due to the amount of missing grass now.
Despite the challenging conditions, we are committed to ensuring the safety and beauty of our fields. To address this issue, we have applied for a Sports Field Variance for additional watering, but the one hour allocated to spread across 13 watering zones has not been enough to impact the dry conditions.
Nonetheless, we are exploring every possible option to bring the fields back to health and ensure a safe and enjoyable playing experience for our players. We are currently considering canceling our Spring Soccer Season to devote time and energy to this effort.
While it would be unfortunate to skip a season, we believe this is the best option if we want to succeed in our mission. No decisions have been made at this time, but we will keep everyone posted as plans are finalized.
Thank you for your patience and support. We appreciate your participation in our soccer program and look forward to providing you with a safe and enjoyable playing experience. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

We are fortunate to have the Westcreek Sports Program available to our children as a community. This program not only offers opportunities for our kids to develop their athletic abilities but also provides a safe and fun environment for them to learn important life skills such as teamwork, sportsmanship, and perseverance.
One of the most important factors in the success of the Westcreek Sports Program is the dedicated volunteers who serve as coaches for the various teams. These coaches generously give their time and expertise to help our children improve their skills and reach their full potential.
The impact that these coaches have on our children cannot be overstated. Not only do they teach the fundamentals of the sport, but they also serve as positive role models and mentors for our kids. Through their guidance and encouragement, our children learn important lessons that will benefit them both on and off the field.
It is important that we recognize and appreciate the hard work and dedication of these volunteer coaches. If you attend a game at the Sports Park, take a moment to thank the coaches for their service to our community and their positive impact on our children's lives.
If you are interested in volunteering as a Westcreek Sports Program coach, please email our Activities Director at Activities@villagesofwestcreek.com. Your contributions will be greatly appreciated and will help ensure this valuable program's continued success for our children.
