Picture Perfect: Shoutout to Kim Dixon!
I’d like to thank Kim Dixon. I have a copy of a picture of my mom and also a copy of a picture of the rest of my family (dad and 5 children) but there is no family picture with all 7 of us. Our mom passed when we were children, (5 children from 1 to 10 years old). She was our picture taker so there are few pictures of her. Kim was so kind to attempt to insert mom into the picture with the rest of our family. I wanted to have that picture framed and give them as gifts to my siblings.
My mom’s picture was taken in the late 1940s and our family picture was taken by an aunt 6 months after mom passed in 1959. Sadly the quality of the pictures were not good enough, but Kim sure gave it a great try! Kim, you are the absolute queen of our neighborhood, you have a kind, giving spirit! Thank you for being you, for your effort with my family picture, and for what you do for all of us on daily basis. You are always the first to step up and you are so appreciated!

Dynamic Duo: Mike Goodman and Debra and Chris Dietrich
I would like to acknowledge two separate residents for their help and extraordinary efforts in the neighborhood.
Mike Goodman has consistently helped keep an eye on the Military Drive construction project. He was constantly taking notes on things that needed to be fixed and things that were not completed to spec. He sent several emails, made several phone calls, took detailed notes documenting imperfections, and ensured the construction company met the highest standards. He is still demanding that things get fixed and completed correctly. I absolutely appreciate all his help and diligence, and I'm so glad he lives in the Villages of Westcreek.
Debra and Chris Dietrich are absolutely amazing neighbors. Chris will help several of his neighbors mow their lawns and maintain their front yards. Debra is always helping out at Luna and was a massive help at Galm. She gives kids rides to school and is always so lovely, helpful, and supportive. They are the most wonderful kind of neighbors to have, constantly checking to make sure everything's OK. I am so grateful to say that I live down the road from them; they make me feel comfortable and secure knowing they are close by.

GOT A NEIGHBOR YOU WANT TO RECOGNIZE?
Remember that neighbors don’t have to live next door, just someone who lives in Westcreek. It could be as simple as a mom who helps out by picking up a child from school, a neighbor who cuts your yard for you just because, or brings in your trash cans. It does not have to be a grand gesture, just something that made your life easier, made you happy, or was just thoughtful.
If you would like to recognize their good deeds and show your appreciation, please submit your recommendation by a deadline of the 20th day of the month prior to publication to: frontoffice@villagesofwestcreek.com.

| | Being Neighborly: Kindness, Courtesy, and Pet Etiquette in Our Community | | |
One of the things that makes our neighborhood special is the sense of community we share. Whether it’s a friendly wave while walking the dog or a quick chat at the mailbox, those small gestures of respect and connection make our neighborhood feel like home.
As good neighbors, we all must keep a few simple courtesies in mind—especially when it comes to our furry friends.
1. Pick Up After Your Pets
Please remember to clean up after your pets every time they’re outside. This keeps our shared spaces clean, safe, and enjoyable for everyone. Carry a bag with you, and if you notice someone has forgotten, a gentle reminder or an extra bag offered with kindness can go a long way.
2. Keep Pets Leashed and Under Control
Even the most well-behaved pets can get startled or overly excited. For everyone’s safety—pets and people alike—please keep your animals leashed in all common areas unless in a designated off-leash space.
3. Be Mindful of Noise
We love our pets, but barking or other animal noises can sometimes disturb the peace. If your pet tends to be vocal, try bringing them indoors at night or when you’re away for extended periods. Here are some additional tips on how to control excessive barking:
-
Remove Distractions: Use blinds to block visuals that might cause barking.
-
Positive Reinforcement: Teach commands like “speak” and “quiet” and reward good behavior.
-
Provide Stimulation: Engage your dog with toys and games to keep them occupied.
-
Ensure Exercise: Regular walks and playtime help reduce barking.
Barking can indicate unmet needs. If it persists, consult a professional dog trainer.
Our community is shared by families, children, and residents of all ages. Let’s ensure all grassy areas, sidewalks, and trails remain pleasant by keeping them clean and free of damage.
Finally, be a thoughtful neighbor! A simple hello, a smile, or checking in on a neighbor goes a long way toward building the kind of friendly, caring community we all want to live in. Together, we can make our neighborhood a welcoming, well-kept place—where people and pets alike feel at home. Thank you for doing your part to keep our community friendly, respectful, and neighborly!

GRUENE, TEXAS
Gruene, Texas, (pronounced "green" like the color) is a Historic District located within the city of New Braunfels, about one hour northeast of Villages of Westcreek. Established by Henry D. Gruene in 1872, it originally was populated before the Civil War by German cotton farmers.
The Gruene Historic District contains examples of late nineteenth century Victorian houses, as well as a few mid-nineteenth century German colonial structures with Victorian additions. The town retains the ambience of a late nineteenth century cotton community, for there has been little construction since the 1920's.
One of the best things to do in Gruene is to explore the town's many antique shops and boutiques with unique items and vintage treasures. Check out Gruene General Store, Gruene Antique Company, and others.
Old Gruene Market Days are held the 3rd full weekend of each month February through November and the 1st weekend of December from 10am-5pm. Free admission. www.gruenemarketdays.com
Located beneath Gruene’s landmark water tower, in the ruins of an 1878 cotton gin, the Historic Gristmill has been considered one of the most unique dining spots in Texas for nearly half a century. www.gristmillrestaurant.com
The Grapevine is a relaxing indoor/outdoor spot in the heart of downtown Gruene with wines from 25+ Texas wineries, New World wines, and several specially curated craft beers on tap. Don’t miss their Come and Taste It events, which include live music and complimentary wine and beer tastings. Upcoming: Nov. 14 (Wurst edition) and Dec. 18 (holiday edition). www.grapevineingruene.com
A trip to Gruene must include visiting the famous Gruene Hall, Texas’ oldest continually operating dance hall. This iconic dance hall has been hosting live music and events for over 140 years. By design, not much has physically changed since the Hall was first built. The 6,000 square foot dance hall with a high-pitched tin roof still has the original layout with side flaps for open air dancing, a bar in the front, a small lighted stage in the back and a huge outdoor garden. www.gruenehall.com
If you're looking for something more outdoorsy, why not try fishing, kayaking, canoeing or tubing on the nearby Guadalupe River? With crystal clear waters and stunning scenery, it's the perfect way to spend a hot summer day. If you're feeling adventurous, you can even take a guided rafting trip down the river. Go on a scenic drive through the surrounding Hill Country, visit the local wineries and vineyards, or stroll through the picturesque streets.
The upcoming Holiday Season is especially fun in Gruene, starting with Sip-n-shop Nov. 6 and the annual Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning (5K Run/Walk & 1/4 Mile Kids' Turkey Chase). Photos with Cowboy Kringle is a tradition in many families. The annual Gruene Pony Express Ride will be Dec. 6. The Historic District will receive a Pony Express rider from the Heritage Trail Ride Association of New Braunfels at 10am. A temporary Post Office sets up next to Gruene Outfitters. Bring your Christmas cards to have the stamps cancelled with the commemorative stamp representing Gruene. www.gruenetexas.com
With so much to see and do, Gruene is the perfect destination for anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the big city and experience the best that small town Texas has to offer. As their official website says: “Gruene is for people who love good music, fun times, and old things!”

OUTDOOR KITCHENS
Staying up to date on the latest home improvement standards is vital as we head into the fall season. One area to pay attention to is the new standards for outdoor kitchens. An outdoor kitchen is a great way to expand your living space and entertain guests, but it's essential to follow the rules and regulations set forth by your local authorities.
According to the new standards, outdoor kitchens must be placed behind the dwelling and not on the side setbacks. Additionally, homeowners must submit a detailed plan/rendering showing the finished kitchen, including colored photos of materials and all dimensions of the improvement.
Regarding size limitations, the standards vary by design, so it's important to consult a professional to ensure your outdoor kitchen meets the requirements. Materials and colors are also closely monitored to complement the dwelling.
Adhering to these new standards ensures your outdoor kitchen is safe, functional, and visually appealing. If you're considering adding an outdoor kitchen to your home, please be sure to research and obtain the necessary approvals before starting your project.
Standards Reference: Article 6.8.2
If you have any questions regarding the Standards, please email the Front Office at FrontOffice@villagesofwestcreek.com or call the VWOA Office at 210-679-8761.

CHIMNEY CLEANING BEFORE THE HOLIDAYS
As the holiday season approaches, many homeowners start thinking about preparing their homes for gatherings with family and friends. One important aspect of home maintenance that often gets overlooked is chimney cleaning.
Having your chimney cleaned before the holidays is a smart choice for several reasons. First and foremost, it ensures that your fireplace is safe to use. Over time, creosote and other debris can build up in the chimney and increase the risk of a fire. A professional chimney sweep can remove this buildup and inspect the chimney for any potential hazards.
Clean chimneys also improve the efficiency of your fireplace. A buildup in the chimney can impede the flow of air and cause smoke to back up into your home. This not only creates a mess but can also be harmful to your health. A clean chimney ensures that smoke is properly vented outside, keeping indoor air quality safe and healthy.
In addition to safety and efficiency, having your chimney cleaned can also extend the life of your fireplace. When debris is allowed to accumulate in the chimney, it can cause damage to the flue lining and other components. Regular cleaning can prevent costly repairs down the road.
Overall, having your chimney cleaned before the holidays is a smart investment in your fireplace's safety, efficiency, and longevity. Contact a professional chimney sweep today to schedule your cleaning and enjoy a worry-free holiday season.
