A Story of a Good Deed

With Gratitude: Shoutout to Sam Tomlinson for his Kindness!

I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Sam Tomlinson, who always takes the time to cut the grass in our front yard while he tends to his own. It’s such a thoughtful and generous gesture, and it honestly doesn’t go unnoticed.

His kindness and neighborly spirit are so appreciated, and we’re grateful to have someone like him next door. Thank you again for going out of your way to lend a helping hand—it means a lot to us!

GOT A NEIGHBOR YOU WANT TO RECOGNIZE?

Remember that neighbors don’t have to live next door, just someone who lives in Westcreek. It could be as simple as a mom who helps out by picking up a child from school, a neighbor who cuts your yard for you just because, or brings in your trash cans. It does not have to be a grand gesture, just something that made your life easier, made you happy, or was just thoughtful.

If you would like to recognize their good deeds and show your appreciation, please submit your recommendation by a deadline of the 20th day of the month prior to publication to: frontoffice@villagesofwestcreek.com.

CONCERNED ABOUT MAILBOX BREAK-INS?

Here is how you can help!

As many of you may be aware, we've recently seen an increase in mailbox break-ins within our community. This trend is concerning, serving as a reminder of the importance of staying vigilant and proactive in securing our neighborhood. One effective way we can combat this type of crime is through our participation in the Cellular on Patrol Program.

Crime prevention is not just a task for law enforcement—it's a collective responsibility that involves every one of us. When community members come together and actively engage in crime prevention measures, we can significantly reduce crime rates and enhance the quality of life in our community. Being vigilant, reporting suspicious activity, and ensuring our homes are secure are all key actions we can take together to keep ourselves and our communities safe.

By participating in the Cellular on Patrol Program, we send a clear message that we care about the safety and well-being of our neighborhood. This initiative allows residents to work collectively and maintain a watchful eye, deterring crime and fostering a sense of unity and solidarity among us.

Let's not wait for crime to impact our community further. By joining forces and participating in community safety programs, we can create a secure environment for ourselves and our families. We encourage each of you to consider getting involved—whether through the Cellular on Patrol Program or perhaps helping to organize a Neighborhood Watch Program.

Together, we can build a safer, more connected Villages of Westcreek. Let's take this opportunity to protect our community and enhance the shared environment we all cherish.

CLOCK TOWER MONUMENT UPDATE

We are pleased to announce that the Clock Tower monument, which was unfortunately damaged in a recent vehicular accident, has been successfully rebuilt. The restoration work on the monument and landscaping was completed on Friday, August 29th. We appreciate your patience while the repairs were underway.

As we approach the holiday season, it's important to be aware of the rules and regulations regarding the display of decorations in our community. The newly revised Standards state that holiday decorations may be displayed on the premises without ARC approval. However, specific guidelines must be followed regarding when and how long decorations can be displayed.

Bexar County Environmental Code Compliance

A Guide to Vector Issues and Ways to Address Them

Texas Health and Safety Code considers it a public nuisance if: maintaining premises in a manner that creates an unsanitary condition likely to attract or harbor mosquitoes, rodents, vermin, or other disease-carrying pests. This is another way of saying a vector issue since it addresses possible disease-carrying agents.

What to do when you think there is an issue at another property:

  1. Contact your HOA and inform them of the problem, so if they have established protocols, they can initiate them.
  2. Contact Bexar County Code Compliance: 210-335-6664 or submit the request via the GOVAlert App. It is free to download and allows for 24/7 reporting.

If you have noticed the possibility, you have a situation with mosquitoes or some other concern, here are some tips to help address those concerns:

  • For mosquitoes- Remove any standing water. Trim grass and keep it trimmed. Utilize EPA-approved repellents. Remember where you might have standing water after a rain, and check those locations.
  • For vermin and rodents- Remove any waste. When leaving trash outside, ensure that the waste containers are securely closed. Seal and secure any containers of food. Please don't leave food out in the open. Trim grass. Look for signs. If you have outdoor storage, ensure it is properly sealed. Contact a reputable pest control company and consider setting up a quarterly treatment plan for your area. Since animals will often return to places where they are most familiar. Continue to practice measures to prevent the animals from returning. If you have holes or openings in your home seal them.

If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to contact our offices, and we will be happy to assist you with information and address any concerns you may have about unwelcome pests. Reporting is completely anonymous.

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS

Emergencies can happen at any time, whether it be a natural disaster, power outage, or a medical emergency. It’s important to be prepared for any situation, especially when it comes to your home. Here are some tips for emergency preparedness for your home.

  1. Create an Emergency Kit: The first step to emergency preparedness is to create an emergency kit. This should include items such as non-perishable food, water, a first aid kit, flashlights, batteries, and any necessary medication. Keep your emergency kit in a designated spot that is easily accessible.
  2. Have a Plan: It’s important to have a plan in case of an emergency. This should include knowing how to evacuate your home, if necessary, and where to meet up with family members. Make sure to practice this plan with your family so everyone knows what to do in case of an emergency.
  3. Stay Informed: Keep yourself informed about any potential emergencies in your area. This can include signing up for local emergency alerts or simply keeping an eye on the news. Being aware of potential emergencies can help you better prepare for them.
  4. Secure Your Home: Make sure your home is secure in case of an emergency. This can include having smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors, as well as securing any loose items in your home that could become a hazard during an emergency.
  5. Have a Backup Power Source: In case of a power outage, it’s important to have a backup power source. This can include a generator or even portable chargers for your phone or other electronic devices.

By following these tips, you can better prepare yourself and your home for any potential emergencies. Remember, it’s always better to be prepared than caught off guard.
