Families Together in NYS, Inc., in partnership with NYS Office of Mental Health is looking for a Western Region Parent Advisor to join the Community & Systems Engagement Department.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Regional Parent Advisor (PA) promotes the lived experience perspective across all child & youth systems. Actively champion the mission and vision of Families Together and Office of Mental Health. The Parent Advisor role is paramount to assist and support the sustainability of Family Peer Support Services (FPSS) in New York State.

Primary responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Advise in matters of policy, and education to all family, child & youth systems.
  • Increase parent/caregiver involvement and advocacy across child serving systems.
  • Provide focused outreach throughout the Western Region to promote and advance family driven care across all child/youth serving systems.
  • Support the Family Peer Advocate (FPA) workforce training & credential efforts.
  • Develop training material to address needs of FPA and provider agencies.
  • Partner with Regional PA’s on statewide initiatives.
  • Engage FPSS in training, developing, and empowering future leaders in serving systems. child

LOCATION:
  • Western Region: Applicant must reside in one of the 19 counties in the region.

STATUS: Full-time (35 hours) salary employee.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must have personal lived/life experience accessing and within the children’s behavioral health system for the benefit of your child/youth.
  • Willing to publicly share your journey. · Currently a credentialed FPA or meets criteria for a credential FPA. https://www.ftnys.org/workforce/family-peer-advocate-credential/
  • Ability to work remotely – telecommute.
  • Experience providing training.
  • Experience in planning and facilitating meetings, conference.
  • Must be able to travel throughout region; some travel out of the region is also required, post covid.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
  • Independently motivated; Excellent coordination and organization skills; attentive to details and timelines. Experience with leadership and advocacy; Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; Demonstrated ability to engage with diverse groups; Demonstrated ability to speak with small and large groups of people; Experience with various software packages: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Go-To, & ZOOM.
