December 11, 2017
The WHS PTSA E-Blast will not be sent on December 25 or January 1.  It will resume on January 8, 2018.  Enjoy the holiday season!
From Our Principal

Good morning WHS families,
Last week I sent an email to families related to the increasing use of "vapes" among teenagers.  As stated in the letter, I encourage you to talk with your children about "vapes", their dangers, and the consequences that may be given at school.
The semester exam schedule has been posted on the WHS website.  Please click here in order to view the schedule.  The dates are January 16-18,the last three days of the semester.
Speaking of January, I encourage you to mark your calendars for January 17. We will be hosting a parent forum that evening from 6-8 pm throughout the building.  We will offer four speakers on topics that include teenage anxiety, being a mindful parent, and two other relevant topics to our students.  The WHS counselors will also be available that night as well Parents will be able to choose two of the four one-hour sessions to attend.  Also in January we will be hosting an informational discussion with parents about the possibility of drug testing at Westlake High School.  Once that date is finalized, I will be sure to let families know.
As always, I encourage you to review the WHS announcements.  They are a great source of information that are updated daily. Remember to view our new Friday morning video announcements below! Finally, I encourage all families to review the Westlake City Schools Profile.  It is filled with lots of information related to our school district.
Have a wonderful week!

Counselor's Corner

SCHOLARSHIPS - First semester has focused on getting into college and in second semester the conversation transitions to how to pay for it. Local scholarship applications will be available in March, but in the meantime we encourage seniors to check out the scholarship folder on the senior bulletin board in the counseling office for scholarship opportunities that have been brought to our attention. Additionally, students can utilize Naviance for a national scholarship search under the "colleges" tab.
West Shore Career-Tech - As information for scheduling starts to become available, we encourage 10 th  graders to keep West Shore Career-Tech in mind. The program, based out of Lakewood High School, provides relevant, real-world academic and technical experience preparing students for further education, professional programs, and/or immediate employment.  Sophomore year is the time students apply to enter a program for their junior and senior years. WHS will host an informational presentation from West Shore for all freshmen and sophomores on Jan. 26. A field trip to Lakewood for a "Hands On" day is scheduled for Feb. 9. Interested students will apply online here .
CCP Book Return - As the college semester comes to an end this month, we would appreciate help keeping your off-campus CCP student accountable to returning their textbook! If your child checked out a textbook from our library, it should be returned to our library as soon as the semester is over. If your child picked up their textbook at the Tri-C bookstore it needs to be returned directly to their school counselor or to Mrs. Frazier in the counseling office. Textbooks not returned by January 5 will be billed directly to the student.
Class of 2019 - Important Info

Attention Juniors and Parents:  The Meningococcal Vaccine (MCV4/Menactra) is required for school attendance and students need to be vaccinated BEFORE the start of their Senior year.  At least one dose must be given at age 16 years or older.  An updated immunization record needs to be turned in to the school nurse before the start of the 2018-19 new school year.  Please begin submitting records as you complete well visits or call your health care provider to fax a copy to school if the vaccine has already been given.  Click HERE for complete details.
