The PTSA Newsletter is going on Spring Break and will return on Monday, April 9th!
From Our Principal

Good morning WHS families,

Today we move into the final grading period at Westlake High School. As a reminder, we do not mail home the third quarter report cards.  After reviewing your child's grades, please contact the teacher or counselor with any questions. As a reminder, we use the 4th grading period to determine eligibility for Fall sports.

Last week you should have received a copy of the Spring Testing Schedule via school messenger and our senior families should have received a hard copy of the senior newsletter. This newsletter includes dates and important items as the seniors wind down their year. It will also be posted on the WHS webpage.

As always, I encourage you to review the WHS announcements  - t hey are a great source of information that are updated daily.  I also encourage all families to review the Westlake City Schools Profile  - i t is filled with lots of information related to our school district.  And lastly, important dates relating to our students are listed below.

Have a wonderful week and a terrific break with your families!

Counselor's Corner

Junior Classroom Guidance - The counselors will travel to all the junior English classes this week for a career assessment on Naviance. Students will complete a "Cluster Finder" to learn what career clusters may be a good match for them based on activities that interest them, their personal qualities, and subjects they enjoy in school. Students will be able to click through the clusters to find more specific careers, what majors or certifications are required for that career, and ultimately what colleges offer those majors or certifications. We will also introduce Naviance's Super Match - a helpful college research tool. We encourage you to ask your child what they've learned about themselves!

Senior Survey - The senior survey is now available for students to complete on Naviance! Especially important to us is an update of the status students' college applications (accepted, denied, waitlisted, etc.).  This information is confidential and used for the scattergrams and graphs that make Naviance so helpful in the college search process. The college/career/military branch information will be used for the graduation slideshow, the acceptances board in the gym hallway, and the senior edition of the Green and White newspaper. This survey will only take 3-5 minutes to complete and is mandatory! Naviance

CCP Intent to Participate -  Just a reminder the Intent to Participate form to let WHS know your child is planning on participating in a CCP class anytime during the 2018-19 school year (summer session included) needs to be turned into their school counselor by April 1. The form is required regardless if the class is on campus or off-campus at another college.  Intent to Participate Form l CCP Checklist

SCHOLARSHIPS - The local scholarship list will be posted by noon today! Students are encouraged to apply to as many scholarships as they meet qualifications for. The majority of scholarships are due April 10, but a few have an earlier deadline so make sure to pay attention to deadlines! If your students have any questions or needs help with the application process, please direct them to their counselor. Local Scholarships

Westlake Music Boosters is looking forward to Music a la Mode which will be held on Saturday, May 12th this year!  For many years, we have offered a raffle that raises significant funds to support ALL music programs in the Westlake City Schools from grades K-12
.
Right now, we are working to gather items and we hope you will help! Themed gift baskets are welcome!  We know it's not always possible to put together a whole gift basket, so perhaps you can contribute by donating a gift card to an area business or an individual item that kids or an adult would enjoy such as a game, toy, craft, or jewelry.  Sport items or tickets are always a big hit as well. Previous year's basket themes include Cleveland Sports, movie night, craft kits, yoga, games, picnic basket, grilling items, summer fun, and more. Maybe you have unopened Christmas gifts in your closets that would make great donations for the raffle!   If you have a basket, gift card or item to donate, please contact Amy Mogyordy at  216-402-7318 or [email protected]. Items will be collected through the end of April.

Be sure to check out the MALM schedule to plan your day

And don't forget to join us at our next meeting: Wednesday, April 11th at 7pm in the WHS Library.
