From Our Principal
Good morning WHS families,
Last week we celebrated diversity week at WHS. Thank you to our Leadership Challenge students for organizing this annual event. Additionally, Leadership Challenge hosted a cultural fair during lunch periods on Friday. We also had a very successful College Information Night last Thursday. We were fortunate to have representation from The Ohio State University, John Carroll University, and Cuyahoga Community College. It was a terrific night of sharing and information gathering.
As we move into this week, we are looking forward to the district-wide PTA event, the Green and White Revue. It is always amazing to see the talent throughout the district. We also have the Girls Bowling Team heading to the State Tournament after a great season. Good luck ladies!
I wanted to remind families about a delayed start day in March. March 20 we will be administering an ACT Test to the entire Junior Class. Juniors will report to school at the regular time and the Freshmen, Sophomores and Seniors will report at 11:30 a.m. and be on an adjusted schedule. There will be a few more delayed start days as we move into the Spring testing season. These will be similar to last year. I will follow-up with more details in the near future.
Finally, there will bean Open Forum on the proposed 7-12 drug testing program on March 20 at 6:30pm in the Lee Burneson Middle School cafeteria. Representatives from the drug testing company and others will be in attendance to share and answer questions.
As always, I encourage you to review the
WHS announcements
- t
hey are a great source of information that are updated daily. I also encourage all families to review the
Westlake City Schools Profile
- i
t is filled with lots of information related to our school district. And lastly, important dates relating to our students are listed below.
Have a wonderful week!

Counselor's Corner
College Fair - The National Association for College Admission Counseling is hosting a free college fair in Cleveland on Sunday, April 22
nd. Hundreds of colleges from across the nation will be attendance to help students discover colleges with characteristics that may make them a good fit for their consideration! This is a great opportunity to identify schools you may want to schedule a college visit and begin making a list of 5-8 schools your child may want to apply to as a senior.

ACT @ WHS for Juniors - All juniors will take the ACT at the high school on Tuesday, March 20
th (this will be a late start for all other students with the day starting at 11:30). The ACT is offered free as one of the state's graduation pathway options to earn a "remediation-free" score in English and mathematics on a nationally recognized college admission exam.

There's an App for That - As we turn the corner toward the finish line, projects and exams begin to pile up. If your child has trouble staying organized or breaking big projects into smaller tasks, you may want to consider a planner if they don't already use one. We often hear students say they won't remember to write down assignments - but they always remember their phone! Some well-reviewed homework and planner apps you can encourage include myHomework Student Planner, iHomework 2, Studious, or My GradeBook. If you find one you like, please share your feedback!
Scholarships - Local scholarship applications will be available March 12
th, but in the meantime we encourage seniors to check out the scholarship folder on the senior bulletin board in the counseling office. Additionally, students can utilize
Naviance for a national scholarship search under the "colleges" tab or visit the school counseling
website for scholarship opportunities.
