From Mr. Wilson
Another busy week in the books at Westlake High School! I am very proud of the students that participated in the 63rd annual Music a la Mode. It is always so impressive to see how many students participate in music programs in the Westlake Schools. This time of year is also bitter sweet at the high school. Many seniors are experiencing their "last" events in the Westlake City Schools. Last week we had senior night activities for our lacrosse teams. This week we started AP testing and will have our prom on Saturday Night. A special thank you to the senior families that have planned a wonderful evening for after prom. Our seniors' last school day is May 25!
A few bits of positive information that we were made aware of last week at Westlake High School:
- We learned that WHS student, Chad Sargent, received a perfect 36 on his April ACT test, making him the 5th student this year with a similar score.
- Westlake High School was named a 2017-2018 Cleveland Clinic Banner School. This award recognizes us for successfully leveraging community resources to advance student learning. Special thanks to Kelly Atkinson, Julie Davidson, and William Wilson. They invested in implementing the eXpressions®program which demonstrates an exceptional commitment to student enrichment. This distinction is earned by fewer than 30% of the 179 schools in four states, that participated in Civic Education programming this year.
- Melissa Barth, WHS Science teacher, was recognized by her peers as the "Exemplary Educator" at Westlake High School for the 2017/2018 school year.
- WHS was recognized by U.S. News and World report as a "Silver Level" school. We were ranked # 39 of over 900 High Schools in Ohio. Thank you parents, students and the entire staff within the Westlake City Schools. This is a team effort. We will continue to strive to do what is best for our students!
Listed below are the important dates as we move towards the end of the year!

Citizens Advisory Committee
Do you have a desire to enhance all aspects of education for the students of Westlake City Schools?
Would you like to be a visible and proactive link between the Westlake community, the Westlake City Schools and the Board of Education?
The Citizens Advisory Committee is looking for civic-minded individuals to join our efforts.
The Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) was established over 40 years ago as a voluntary advisory committee to the Westlake Board of Education (BOE), and is comprised of a diverse group of Westlake residents and community representatives. The CAC communicates, researches, evaluates and recommends action plans for consideration by the BOE.
If you would like to be part of a team working toward the ultimate enhancement of education provided to Westlake's children, then consider joining the CAC!
Additional information, including past research projects, can be found here,
