From Our Principal

Good morning WHS families,

I would like to thank the families that participated in the May Duggan Food Drive this past week. Overall, it is a great event that benefits many people in the greater Cleveland area.  Our instrumental music program had a tremendous concert last Thursday.  I am always amazed at the talent level of our musicians. Congratulations to our athletes including Emma Peeler, Demi Jhaveri, and Ashley Michelich for advancing to the State Tennis tournament.  In addition, I would like to congratulate Erica Francesconi, Teagan Walsh, and Emma Jaros for their top five finishes at the SWC championships.  Erica finished first overall.  Finally, a big congratulations to the Lady Demon Soccer Team for winning the SWC crown as well as their first round playoff game. Our football, volleyball, and boys soccer teams were also in action this past weekend.  Overall, we have had a strong fall season.

Please keep the following dates in mind for the remainder of October.  The fall choral concert is Monday, October 23 at 7 pm in the PAC, the end of the first quarter is Thursday, October 26.  I encourage you to review your child's grades and reach out to the teachers if there are any questions. We also have a staff work day on October 27.  There will be no school for students.

I encourage you to review the WHS announcements. They are a great source of information and can be found
here .  Have you had the opportunity to view our new Friday morning video announcements? These are prepared by WHBS, our local WHS TV channel.

Counselor's Corner

SENIOR PARENTS
If your child is applying to a university with a November 1ST  deadline, they should
have already turned in a transcript release form to their counselor. The yellow transcript release form also tells counselors if a letter of recommendation is required so it's important we receive requests as soon as possible if it's not yet turned in.  Blank forms are available in the counseling office on the senior bulletin board. (There are many deadlines after Nov. 1 so if your student is not working to meet that particular deadline, don't worry! There is still plenty of time to apply to schools - this is simply the first common deadline for students submitting early action to a college.)

ASVAB
We will be offering an ONLINE administration of the ASVAB test this year on Wednesday, December 6  at 8:00a in our Media Center lab.  The ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) is the most in depth Career Assessment we are able to offer our students!  Taking the exam carries no obligation at all to the military;  but rather, is provided by the military as a service to students.  The online version, is a self-paced assessment that takes about 90 minutes.  The test will be followed by instructions on how to interpret scores and how to explore careers that are matched to their interests and abilities.  All students in grades 10, 11 and 12 are invited to register in the Counseling Office. More Info on ASVAB Practice Tests

FAFSA
If you missed our Financial Aid Night last week, or if you attended but would like more help filling out the FAFSA, consider attending Tri-C's Friday Night FAFSA on Friday, Nov. 3 from 5:00 - 7:00 at the Western Campus in Parma for help filing out your FAFSA.  More Info  including what documents to bring.

COLLEGE VISITS
Colleges visits allow juniors and seniors to hear directly from admissions representatives what their school is looking for and ask questions in a small group setting!  Often the college reps will be one of the readers for the applications from WHS so it's a great opportunity to put a face to the name!  Student must register in

This week's visits include:
Monday, Oct. 23
Canisius College, Hiram College
Tuesday, Oct. 24
University of Chicago, Baldwin Wallace University
Thurs., Oct. 26
Ohio Northern University, Michigan State University
