From Our Principal

Good morning WHS families,

It is hard to believe that we have completed the first quarter of school.  As a reminder, we do not send home first quarter report cards.  We mail home report cards at the semester and end of the school year.  Final quarter grades are available on-line.

As we move into November, we close the door on many of our Fall sports and start to prepare for the Winter Sports seasonTonight we are hosting a show choir festival that will include WHS/LBMS and 5 area schools.  Admission is $5.  We hope to see you there!  I encourage everyone to attend our "Midnight Madness " event on November 4The gates will open at 7:30 pm and the events will start at 8:00 pm.  The first 300 people in get a free T-shirt!  Finally, mark your calendars for our musical, "The Little Mermaid." The shows are at 7:00 pm on November 17 and 18, and 2:00 pm on November 19.  Tickets cost $7.00 and can be purchased at the door.

Congratulations are in order for WHS Assistant Principal,   Mr. Ned Lauver.  Mr. Lauver was recently recognized by OASSA, as the Assistant Principal of The Year in Ohio.  Congrats Mr. Lauver!

I encourage you to review the WHS announcements. They are a great source of information and can be found
here .  Have you had the opportunity to view our new Friday morning video announcements? These are prepared by WHBS, our local WHS TV channel.

Should you have any questions or concerns about any of the information above, please feel free to reach out to me.

IEP's AND 504's IN COLLEGE
Parents and students often have questions about options for college when a student
has an Intervention Evaluation Plan (IEP) or 504Plan.  If you've wondered about the services your child can expect after high school graduation, consider attending the Special Education College Night on November 14  at 6:30p in the Bay High School library.  Seven public and private colleges including University of Akron, Bowling Green State University, MercyHurst University and Ursuline College will discussing the opportunities and services students can receive after high school. For more information contact Kristyn Webber

PEER TUTORING
Did you know we have peer tutoring available every single period of every single day?  It's available before and after school too!  If you are interested in getting your student some extra assistance, we encourage you to look at this option.  Students should check in with their study hall teacher prior to reporting to the peer tutoring lab in the English wing.

ASVAB
We will be offering an ONLINE administration of the ASVAB test this year on Wednesday, December 6  at 8:00a in our Media Center lab.  The ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) is the most in depth Career Assessment we are able to offer our students!  Taking the exam carries no obligation at all to the military; but rather, is provided by the military as a service to students.  The online version, is a self-paced assessment that takes about 90 minutes.  The test will be followed by instructions on how to interpret scores and how to explore careers that are matched to their interests and abilities.  All students in grades 10, 11 and 12 are invited to register in the Counseling Office. More Info on ASVAB Practice Tests

FAFSA
If you missed our Financial Aid Night last week, or if you attended but would like more help filling out the FAFSA, consider attending Tri-C's Friday Night FAFSA on Friday, Nov. 3 from 5:00 - 7:00 at the Western Campus in Parma for help filing out your FAFSA.  More Info  including what documents to bring.
