From Our Principal

Good morning WHS families,

While week one is always filled with special schedules and events, we had the opportunity to get some normalcy during week two.  Our students had a great week!  I was very happy with our turnout for Open House on Tuesday night.  Thank you to those that were able to stop by the High School and see all that was going on.  A special thank you to our National Honor Society members.  They did a tremendous job throughout the evening!

We received some great news this past week.  WHS Junior, Isabella DiGiulio, received a perfect score of 36 on her ACT test. Congratulations Isabella on this amazing accomplishment!

Many families have asked about teacher webpages.  Teacher webpages can be accessed here.   If you have specific questions, I encourage you to contact the teachers directly.  Their emails are also on the link above.

Many of our clubs and activities have started.  I have been posting the information on Twitter and we also started to post the information on the announcements section of the webpage.  Announcements can be found here

If your child has off campus CCP classes, please sign-up for our "Remind" so you can stay in the loop with all information related to WHS.  You can sign up here.

WHS conferences are on Tuesday, September 19 and Wednesday, September 27. Conference sign-ups are on-line. If interested in a conference time, please sign up here .

This week our pep band is playing at Bassett and Hilliard elementary schools and many of our athletic teams are off to great starts!  Check out our athletic webpage to stay on top of all of the action.

Finally, if your child drives to school, be sure to get them a parking pass.  We have started to check for tags, there are some cars that do not have a parking permit.  If you do not have a permit, you may be towed off of the property.  Please contact Mr. Lauver with questions.  The number is 440.250.1004.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us.

Have a wonderful week!

Counselor's Corner

COLLEGE VISITS - Colleges have started to sign up to come visit with our Westlake students!  This is an opportunity for juniors and seniors to hear directly from admissions representatives what their school is looking for and ask questions in a small group setting.  All visits are listed in the counseling office and online through your child's Naviance account.  Some schools coming to WHS include The Ohio State, Johns Hopkins, Vanderbilt, Bowling Green, Case Western, Xavier, Cleveland State, and more!

CCP STUDENTS OFF-CAMPUS - Please have your CCP child sign up! In an effort to stay more connected with our College Credit Plus (CCP) students taking classes outside of WHS, we have created a "Remind" Group to allow us to easily communicate important information with our students! If your child is taking a CCP course off-campus please have them sign up for our "Remind" texts and notifications. Parents are welcome to register as well! Visit rmd.at/k2bh8a to sign up or text @k2bh8a to 81010.
Calling All Volunteers! Homecoming 2017
September 30th,  7-10 pm

WHS PTSA is looking to fill about 25-30 volunteer spots to help make this year's Homecoming Dance a success!  We need volunteers to help with the Belonging/Coat Check, drink station and monitoring the patio.

Volunteers are not on the dance floor! :)   Your child won't even know you're there unless they stop in for a drink or check belongings!

Please check out the Sign Up Genius link to see where you'd like to volunteer!
Club Fair - This Friday!

WHS will sponsor a Club Fair during the lunch periods on Friday, September 8. Please encourage your child to get involved at WHS.  We will have over 25 clubs represented at the club fair on Friday.

St. Mary Magdalene Byzantine Catholic Church, l ocated at 5390 W. 220th Street in Fairview Park, is seeking volunteers for their 8th Annual European Festival.   The European Festival brings together the music, ethnic traditions and delicious cuisine from countries across Europe. Visitors enjoy live music and dancing, religious goods sale, cash raffle, ethnic food and a bake sale. The Festival is being held Saturday, September 9th  from 11 am - 11 pm, and volunteers are needed before, during, and after the festival day. Over 2500 people are expected to attend this event so a lot of help is needed for a variety of tasks.  These include greeting guests, helping in the kitchen and bakery, festival set-up and tear down, and helping in the religious goods store.  If you are interested in volunteering, please e-mail Nora Peralta.

The Westlake Historical Society's Fall Yard Sale is September 16, Saturday, from 9a-4p. Student volunteers are needed on 9/15, from 4-8p for set up, and also the day of sale from 8a-5p.  Please see attached flier for more details, or contact Jan Schmitt .
