Beloved congregation,
I am occasionally asked why we have so many Scripture readings in our worship services, particularly by visitors. After all, we announce God's Word in our call to worship, we read his Word in our confession of sin and assurance of pardon, we sing his Word through psalms and biblical hymns, we use his Word as the touchstone of our pastoral and congregational prayers, we read and receive his preached Word in a sermon, and we pronounce a blessing from God's Word in the benediction.
We saturate our services with Scripture because we understand that Worship is to be God-centered and not man-centered. The best way to ensure that our worship services are God-centered is to fill them with God's self-disclosure of himself in the Word. Moreover, what our souls need the most is truth from God, about God—not a word from man, about man.
We have a rich diet of spiritual food for you this coming Lord's Day. Please come prepared to feed upon God's preached Word for the edification of your souls.
Also, please remember to be in prayer for the pastoral search committee. We sincerely need your intercessions for wisdom in choosing the right man.
In the Bonds of Christ's Love,
~Pastor Joe
