Prayer List

Any god worth praying to

Any divine worth honoring

Anything that can remotely call itself sacred

while children are bombed, hungry and afraid

Anything worth its dirt in devotion

is already letting out a primal scream

is already furious and fuming and has been for years

is already placing their body, their livelihood,

their anything and everything on the line

Desperate with love

Desperate with grief

Desperate with rage

While too many sanctuaries are filled only with silence

Too many choirs sing of everything but freedom

Too many prayers for peace aim to transcend

as blood seeps further into the dirt

Come, come, come,

let us worship at the feet of our children

Ten small toes, ten holy pleas for humanity

To little else can I bow

~ M Jade Kaiser, Enfleshed

This week we pray for:

Sue Coleman

Our longtime member Sue died peacefully in Cleveland on Saturday, May 25. We lift prayers for peace and comfort for daughter Amy and their family, and for all in our Westminster Church family whose lives were touched by Sue. I will send out an update about a memorial service when the information is available.

Tom, son of Linda and Greg Barbu

Prayers for strength and peace for Tom who is having a heart valve repair surgery tomorrow. We also hold Linda and Greg in our prayers as they support him.

Deborah, Sherry Hatter-Miller's sister

Prayers for peace and comfort for Deborah who is having a lumpectomy tomorrow.

Tom and Charlotte, Susan Shaw's brother and his daughter

Susan and Tom Shaw ask for prayers for Susan’s brother Tom and his daughter Charlotte. Her brother has been dealing with debilitating stomach issues since his return from Haiti two weeks ago, and Charlotte has been struggling with mental health issues and is currently hospitalized.

Nahida and Don Gordon

Continued prayers for healing for Nahida and Don who are recovering from a car accident. Nahida is at the Cleveland Clinic Main Campus, G81 Room 17, awaiting a laparoscopic surgery to have a heart valve repaired. Don is at West View Healthy Living (1715 Mechanicsburg Rd), Room 615. He is doing well with his rehab and loves visits. While Nahida is in Cleveland, a wonderful way to support their family is to visit Don frequently, and especially on Saturdays, when his caretaker is not able to be with him. They appreciate your love and support for them.

Dave Noble

Continued prayers for healing for Dave who fell on Monday and broke his femur near his prosthesis. He does not require surgery, and is doing intense rehab. Dave would love your visit. He is in room 409 in the Rehab unit at the Wooster Community Hospital (visiting hours are between 4-8 pm, Mo-Fri; 2-8 Sat, 11-8, Sun). Prayers for strength also for Gayle as she cares for Dave.

Tamara, Sherry Hatter-Miller's niece

Continued prayers for healing for Tamara who will receive updates on the 8th surgery on her finger next week.

Jim Taggart

Continued prayers for healing for Jim who is recovering at home after having his big toe on his right leg amputated due to an infection recently.

Caryl Slater

Continued prayers for healing and comfort for Caryl, who has been grappling with health challenges caused by a kidney stone as well as high blood pressure.

Chris Stewart

Continued prayers for healing for Chris, who is recovering from heart surgery at home.

Brandy, Eric Miller's niece

Continued prayers for Brandy as she undergoes treatment for an aggressive type of breast cancer.

Deb Hostetler

Continued prayers for healing, peace of mind and strength for Deb as she continues her chemo treatment and grapples with nausea. We also hold husband Gabe and their children in our love as they support Deb on this journey.

Tom Ewing, Erica Ewing's dad

Continued prayers for healing for Tom. He has resumed his cancer treatment.

Tom Battles

Continued prayers for Tom and Elaine in this new season of life with Tom living in a nursing home.

Barbara Mykkanen

Continued prayers for Barb as she participates in a study to help others with similar cancer diagnosis. She has been recently diagnosed with age related macular degeneration on her left eye.

We pray for

  • those who are healing from medical procedures, and who are dealing with ongoing health concerns in our midst;
  • those in our community who are unhoused;
  • those who are overwhelmed by the difficult personal situations;
  • all who live in the midst of violence and war - in Gaza, the West Bank and Israel, Haiti, South Sudan, Ukraine, and many other places across the world;
  • your peace, O God, to overcome our dependence on violence and warfare;
  • the communities experiencing the effects of climate change due to severe weather events and natural disasters across our country and the world; we especially pray for those in Texas without electricity, and for those affected by the landslides in Papua New Guinea.
  • those who strive for justice, may their voices be heard and heeded;
  • in thanksgiving for all who use their skills and resources for the common good;
  • your church to build up the beloved community across the world.

Come, Holy Spirit!

Move in and through us, whisper hope into every corner of despair.

May we embody God's light, love, compassion, and hope to all we encounter.

Volunteer with Open Arms Kids' Camp this Summer

The Kids' Camp at Orrville Mennonite Church serves local Latinx youth and is a fun, rewarding experience. Westminster has provided a number of summer camp volunteers.

  • choose which age group you prefer: pre-k through 4th grade or 5th grade through high school. You can be a helper or leader, and there will be a number of other volunteers with you.
  • meet with your age group every other Wednesday from 9:00 am to 2:00 p.m (There will also be some local field trips)
  • choose where your interest lies: learning themes, kitchen help, outdoor activities, art, drama and dance projects, etc.
  • choose as many days or half-days as your schedule permits.

Contact Cheryl Weiss via email for more information. A knowledge of Spanish is not needed.

Helping out with the Kids' Camp is fun and rewarding!

A message from the 150 Anniversary planning committee

What will future generations know about Westminster in 2024?

Please add to the historical record at the 150th Anniversary website. Your memories and reflections may be of any length. These reflections will be preserved in our archives and at the College of Wooster archives. We need many submissions to make this a successful effort in describing who we are and what we hold as important.  It is also ok to submit your contributions at the link below or in written form to the church office and your entry will be transcribed into our online webpage.

Your thoughts and contributions are unique and important.

To Submit a Prayer Request:

If you would like to submit a prayer request for yourself or someone else, please fill out this anonymous form. You are also welcome to email Pastor Enikő directly, or call her at (330) 263-2208 during her office hours (Tuesday–Friday, 9am–5pm).
Congregational Care

Session members and our Congregational Care Ministry team continue to provide calls, cards, and emails to our Westminster Presbyterian Church family. You are the eyes and ears who help the church meet the needs of our faith community. Please contact the church office by email or phone (330-263-2398) and make the needs of our church family known.

Prayer Request and Privacy Laws

Please note, that because of government privacy laws, hospitals and care centers no longer are allowed to notify churches that a person has been admitted (even if the person lists their home church at admission). The only way that the church staff will know if someone is hospitalized is if a family member or friend lets us know. We'd rather get 20 calls about the same person than none! Thanks for your help in making Westminster a caring community. Contact the Westminster Office by phone 330-263-2398 or email to notify the church if you or someone you know is hospitalized or otherwise in need of our prayers!
