This Week At Westminster

Prayer List

Friends,

May we be guided by this serenity prayer inspired by the wisdom of St. Francis this week.

I use first person plural because, while each of us prays as an individual, as children of God and followers of Jesus, we believe in our interconnectedness. We pray, we love, we build the Beloved Community together.

~~~
God, grant us the patience
to work with the unjust systems
we cannot change today,
the courage to strategically
enact progress when we know we can,
and the wisdom to know that,
despite structural oppression,
we (and each of us) can still make a difference.
Amen.
This week we pray for:
Jim Kramer, David Gillespie's ex brother-in-law
Prayers for Jim, a close friend of Jim's since age 17, as he grapples with a very serious illness.
Jean Brazee
Continued prayers for long-time member Jean, who moved to the Danbury memory-care unit.
Barbara Mykkanen and son Colin
Continued prayers for Barb who started a new immunotherapy cancer treatment Prayers also for Barb and Stephanie's son Colin as he settles in his new home at REM.
Deb Hostetler
Continued prayers for healing, peace of mind and strength for Deb. We also hold husband Gabe and their children in our love as they support Deb on this journey.
Brandy, Eric Miller's niece
Continued prayers for Brandy as she continues her cancer treatment.
Tom Ewing, Erica Ewing's dad
Continued prayers for healing for Tom. He has resumed his cancer treatment.
We also pray for:
  • those in the midst of strife, physical or emotional, political or personal;
  • people who work in social services, who worry that funding for their organizations will be reduced, and for their clients for whom these services provide a life line;
  • all who live in the midst of conflict and war - in many places across the world; we pray for peace and justice for all people;
  • all in our midst who - no matter what - keep creating space for welcome, laughter, friendship, healing and wonder;
  • God's love to grow within each of us, so we continue to do justice, love kindness and take the risk of walking in the ways of Jesus.
Madeline in Klaipeda, Lithuania
We continue to hold Madeline in our prayers during her semester abroad.
Madeline was in Georgia a few weeks ago. She says"
"The trip was good. We spent most of our time in Tbilisi. The weather was really good and we were able to see the mountains all the time. Walked a lot and ate a lot of good food. Overall a good time!"
Bring Your Creativity to Christmas Eve!
Friends, Worship Committee is already at work planning worship and events for the Advent and Christmas season. We know that Westminster is a community of people who love art—poetry, music, dance, visual expressions. We love art because we have experienced how it opens our eyes and our imagination to new perspectives about God, the world, and human beings.
This year, we would like to tell the story of Christmas through art. We would like your help with creating an inspiring Christmas Eve service.
How? By suggesting poetry, short stories, drama, music and dance that capture the message of Christmas.
Please send or bring your suggestions to the Church Office by Tuesday, December 3, noon so we can consider them at our meeting that day.
We look forward to seeing the gates of creativity and of our imagination be flung open. Let us mold a message of hope and resilience, love and justice together in this coming season!
On behalf of the Worship Committee,
Pastor Enikö
Prayer Request and Privacy Laws
Please note, that because of government privacy laws, hospitals and care centers no longer are allowed to notify churches that a person has been admitted (even if the person lists their home church at admission). The only way that the church staff will know if someone is hospitalized is if a family member or friend lets us know. We'd rather get 20 calls about the same person than none! Thanks for your help in making Westminster a caring community. Contact the Westminster Office by phone 330-263-2398 or email to notify the church if you or someone you know is hospitalized or otherwise in need of our prayers!
