This Week At Westminster

Prayer List

Creator and Nurturer of Life,

On this day, as we remember the events from September 11, 2001, fill us with your peace.

Comfort us as remember, and mourn--all who died, all whose hopes for the future were shattered.

Grant us wisdom as we ponder the ways our individual and communal lives have been changed by this experience - in this country and across the globe.

As we grapple with the complex legacy of 9/11, empower us to resist vengeful urges that goads us to return evil for evil in current difficult situations, conflicts and wars.

Empower all who strive to work for peace. Guide us into community with each other.

Grant us understanding, compassion and courage so that we live as agents of renewal and hope in this next season of life. Amen.

This week we pray for:

Barna Ferenczy, cousin of Pastor Enikö

Prayers for healing for Barna (Brown) who was hospitalized and is being monitored for thrombosis in his legs (in Debrecen, Hungary).

Dave Gillespie's sister Patricia and brother-in-law Marvin

Continued prayers for comfort and strength for Patricia and Marvin. Patricia is the full-time caretaker of her husband as Marvin is grappling with a sudden decline in his health.

Barbara Mykkanen

Continued prayers for healing and peace for Barb as she heals from her recent procedure and prepares for immunotherapy.

Deb Hostetler

Continued prayers for healing, peace of mind and strength for Deb as she is finishing up her chemo treatment. We also hold husband Gabe and their children in our love as they support Deb on this journey.

Deborah, Sherry Hatter-Miller's sister

Continued prayers for peace and comfort for Deborah as she is finishing up her last week of radiation on Thursday.

Tamara, Sherry Hatter-Miller's niece

Continued prayers for healing for Tamara as she continues her treatment on her finger.

Brandy, Eric Miller's niece

Continued prayers for Brandy as she undergoes treatment for an aggressive type of breast cancer.

Jim Taggart

Continued prayers for healing for Jim.

Chris Stewart

Continued prayers for healing for Chris, who is recovering from heart surgery at home.

Tom Ewing, Erica Ewing's dad

Continued prayers for healing for Tom. He has resumed his cancer treatment.

Tom Battles

Continued prayers for Tom and Elaine in this new season of life with Tom living in a nursing home.

We also pray for:

  • those healing from medical procedures, and who are dealing with ongoing health concerns and difficult personal situations in our midst;
  • in gratitude for our community - for all who create space for welcome, laughter, friendship, healing and wonder in our midst;
  • all who live in the midst of conflict and war - in many places across the world; for those in fear of gun violence in this country; May your peace, O God, to overcome our dependence on violence and warfare;
  • creation as it cries out, so that we may work to heal and preserve the natural world;
  • authentic conversations about difficult topics, bridging chasms between us;
  • our nation as we face another election--may we be united in working for the common good;
  • God's word to guide our hearts and our steps, as we share the justice and hope of the good news.

May we embody God's light, love, compassion, and hope to all we encounter.

Launching our WPC StoryCorps Project

Friends, this Sunday we are launching our Westminster StoryCorps Project on Sunday, September 15. Join us for worship and picnic at Clear Creek Park to hear stories from our members and to begin sharing your own story.

WHEN: Sunday, September 15, 10 am

WHERE: Clear Creek Park (668 Venture Blvd)

Bring a side or dessert to share!

The stories of our faith - the stories of scripture and tradition reveal how people of faith experienced God's presence, comfort and challenge, love and care in the midst of everyday life. Similarly, we will be sharing our stories because we want to remember what experiences have shaped us, who have been people in our lives who inspire us to be the persons we are today. In this anniversary year, we'd like to create a snapshot of our congregation - who we are; who/what shaped us; what passions and dreams do we bring into our community.

To help us frame our story, here are some questions that Lemoine Peart prepared for us. We invite you to read them before Sunday here. You can also check out two examples we have already shared on our website.

Each of our stories are important!

Together we form the rich tapestry we know as Westminster church.

Hope to see you for story time!

Prayer Request and Privacy Laws

Please note, that because of government privacy laws, hospitals and care centers no longer are allowed to notify churches that a person has been admitted (even if the person lists their home church at admission). The only way that the church staff will know if someone is hospitalized is if a family member or friend lets us know. We'd rather get 20 calls about the same person than none! Thanks for your help in making Westminster a caring community. Contact the Westminster Office by phone 330-263-2398 or email to notify the church if you or someone you know is hospitalized or otherwise in need of our prayers!
