This Week At Westminster

Prayer List

For everything that emerges from the earth

Thanks be to you, O God,

Holy Root of being

Sacred Sap that rises

Full-bodied Fragrance of earth’s unfolding form.

May we know that we are of You

may we know that we are in You

may we know that we are one with You together one.

Guide us as nations to what is deepest

open us as peoples to what is first

lead us as a world to what is dearest

that we may know the holiness of wholeness

that we may know the strength of humility

that together we may live close to the earth

and grow in grounded glory.

~ by John Philip Newell, Prayer for the Life of the World

(from Praying with the Earth: A Prayerbook for Peace)

Barbara Mykkanen

Continued prayers for healing and peace for Barb as she heals from her recent procedure and prepares for immunotherapy.

Prayers for healing for Candace and comfort and strength for her family. Candace continues to struggle with health issues; she is currently receiving treatment for two different types of pneumonia as well as Covid.

Deborah, Sherry Hatter-Miller's sister

Continued prayers for peace and comfort for Deborah as she is finishing up her last week of radiation on Thursday.

Tamara, Sherry Hatter-Miller's niece

Brandy, Eric Miller's niece

Continued prayers for Brandy as she undergoes treatment for an aggressive type of breast cancer.

Jim Taggart

Tom Ewing, Erica Ewing's dad

Continued prayers for healing for Tom. He has resumed his cancer treatment.

Tom Battles

Continued prayers for Tom and Elaine in this new season of life with Tom living in a nursing home.

We also pray for:

  • our little COW Preschool neighbors who began a new chapter yesterday;

  • with gratitude and joy for the reconnecting with old friends and making new connections at the Org Fair hosted by the Religious and Spiritual Life Office;

  • those healing from medical procedures, and who are dealing with ongoing health concerns and difficult personal situations in our midst;
  • those who are traveling to see family;

  • all who live in the midst of violence and war - in many places across the world and this country; today we especially pray for the community of Winder, GA where a shooting at the high school claimed 4 lives. May your peace, O God, to overcome our dependence on violence and warfare;

  • in thanksgiving for everyone who helped pack 26 hygiene kits and 50 school kits for Church World Service (CWS) this past Sunday.

  • authentic conversations about difficult topics, bridging chasms between us;
  • our nation - may all seek connections with those who are different from us, and work for the common good;
  • your church, O God, to build up the beloved community across the world.

May we embody God's light, love, compassion, and hope to all we encounter.

Thank you for your support for CWS

Thank you to everyone who helped pack 26 hygiene kits and 50 school kits for Church World Service (CWS) this past Sunday. CWS is a Protestant ecumenical organization which provides assistance to sisters and brothers worldwide in the form of programs for poverty and hunger, displacement, and disaster relief.

The value of this project is $1292. In the first 6 months of 2024, CWS shipped 16,620 hygiene kits and 7140 school kits to assist others affected by disasters, whether economic, human-made or natural.

Thank you for fostering children's education and path toward a better future across the world!

Celebrating Being Good Neighbors

September 8

Ice Cream Social

Welcoming COW Students and Celebrating the Success of the Mustard Seed Campaign

Our Westminster community takes seriously caring for our neighbors near and far. We want to show our love and care in tangible way.

On Sunday, September 8, come join us for ice cream and brownies, good conversations and laughter following worship.

We will be celebrating our longtime partnership with students from the COW. We'd love to offer a warm welcome to old friends and new as you begin your adventure of learning and fun this Fall.

We are celebrating the success of our 150th Anniversary Mustard Seed Project, erasing over 4.2 million dollars worth of debt! With the generosity and friendship of so many of you in our wider community in Wooster and beyond, we practiced being good neighbors with 3,871 families!

Together we have planted seeds that grew into this amazing "shrub" to provide shade - comfort and hope - the possibility of a new beginning toward a more wholesome life for so many in our extended neighborhoods. Abundance beyond our imagination!

Bring a friend and join us in celebrating on September 8th:

in worship at 10:00 am and at the ice cream social afterwards!

Now to the One who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine, to God be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. (Ephesians 3:20-21)

Prayer Request and Privacy Laws

Please note, that because of government privacy laws, hospitals and care centers no longer are allowed to notify churches that a person has been admitted (even if the person lists their home church at admission). The only way that the church staff will know if someone is hospitalized is if a family member or friend lets us know. We'd rather get 20 calls about the same person than none! Thanks for your help in making Westminster a caring community. Contact the Westminster Office by phone 330-263-2398 or email to notify the church if you or someone you know is hospitalized or otherwise in need of our prayers!
