This is a communion Sunday. If you are watching via Zoom, please have your communion elements ready.

Dear Beloved of God,

Thank you to all who participated in our second congregational gathering this past Sunday. Some of our discussions were difficult, but necessary and meaningful. I appreciate your willingness to be vulnerable with one another. I also want to thank Rebecca Barnes for the beautiful liturgy she wrote for us.

All the information I am gathering from these conversations are being filed in Google Drive so that we all have access to them. Please click here to view them. If you have trouble viewing the file, contact the church office.

If you were not in attendance, please complete the congregational assessment you can find in the Google Drive file or come by the office for a hard copy. We need these completed and

turned into Faith by Sunday, November 6.

Our third gathering is this coming Sunday, November 6. I hope you will join us. If you have not registered, please do so immediately so we have a count for lunch. Here's the link: https://forms.gle/bt5uNpi3ySiSnfDJA.

Please remember that this is a process that takes time, and it is important to have as many people invested in it as we can so that we get a true understanding of where we are and where God is calling us to be in the future.

Peace,

Peggy

2023 Stewardship Commitment Update

We’ve received 26 pledges totaling more than $126,000 so far. If you haven’t responded yet, it’s not too late. We hope to hear from you soon. If you’ve misplaced your pledge card, contact the church office or the treasurer, Jack Marcum, 502-403-8247 or [email protected]

Lunch Reminder

The catered lunches at the congregational gatherings cost $9.00 each. If you haven’t paid for yours yet, you can make a check out to the church, write “lunch” on the memo line, and put it in the offering plate on Sunday or mail it to the church office.

Friendship Opportunities

There are three upcoming ways you could help folks within our congregation:

  • This Saturday at 9 a.m., some CHPCers will meet outside the church office to help Pastor Kashama and Nelly move to their new apartment. There is a truck and driver, but helpers are needed to move furniture.
  • Sunday worship; Bob Abrams is not ready to return to sanctuary worship and is still working on his Zoom connections. Once those are ready to go, he would welcome someone to worship with him on Zoom at his new apartment at Wesley Manor, 5012 Manslick Road. It would be great to have a different friend each Sunday.
  • Tuesday, Nov. 15 at 9 a.m., the Lainez family will be in housing court. Some CHPCers will be attending to provide the family with emotional support. Carpooling to the Hall of Justice downtown is possible. Cards in advance to encourage the family are very welcome (English is fine). Their address is: German Lainez, Kelin Medina and family, 5210 Russett Blvd #4, Louisville KY 40218

If you can help with any of these opportunities, please contact Soni Castleberry by phone call or text at 502-417-6481.

Coffee and Conversation

You are invited to stop by Henry Young Hall on Sunday mornings from 10:00 to 10:45 for coffee and conversation. Nothing formal is planned. This is just an opportunity to be together and maybe get to know one another better.

Children’s Sunday School on Zoom

Children of all ages are invited to come Zoom with us from 9:45 to 10:15 a.m. every Sunday. We will gather for music, Bible stories, crafts, and more. Throughout the fall we will hear stories about Moses, Ruth, David, and other ancestors in the faith. Our crazy friend Sid is back too. Join us each week to see how Sid, once again, has fundamentally misunderstood the Bible story.

Never a dull moment in children’s Sunday school! Teachers are Jerry Van Marter, Eva Stimson, Bev Machin, and Luke Van Marter (aka Sid). Please let us know if you would like to join our teaching team. Email Jerry to get on the list to receive weekly Zoom invitations and other announcements.

Where Do I Find . . . ?

Do you know where to find extension cords at CHPC? Flip charts? First aid kits? We now have an item locator chart on the kitchen refrigerator to help you find needed items around the church. Still can’t find some needed item? Contact Patti Marcum at 502-403-8269 or [email protected].

Youth Group Activities: October - December 2022

Sunday, November 6, 12-2:30 p.m.,for those interested in participating in the last conversation of a 3-conversation series at CHPC about the future of the church. Youth and youth leaders are invited to sit together. Box lunches are available but you will need to sign up in advance. Please let Rebecca know if you'd like to participate!

Sunday, November 13, 2-5 p.m. Champs Rollerdome. Meet at Champs or if a ride would help, we're always happy to give rides or carpool. For those who are able, please bring $15 (includes skate rental), or $20 if you'd also like anything from the snack bar. If financial assistance is needed, let us know. However, if you want to bring your own water bottle, we will have some snacks in youth leaders cars before/after skating. Outside food is not allowed.

Sunday, December 11, 3-6 p.m. Marvel movie watching with a taco bar!! We will have some fun movie and taco time at church in the youth room. If desired, we can also brainstorm ideas of how to fix up the youth room, play some ping pong, or do some arts/crafts while watching. We'll decide collectively which movie to watch.

For any and all questions, call/text Rebecca Barnes or email [email protected]
