Pentecost Party

This Sunday right after worship – noon to 2 pm -- come celebrate the beginning – the birthday – of the Christian church. Feel the wind, hear the sounds, be amazed by the languages and inspired by the Holy Spirit to spread Christ’s light into the world!

• Enjoy pizza, salad, fruit, and snacks
• Make and decorate a pinwheel and tie streamers onto a light stick
• Listen to the sounds of flute music and feel the wind of the Spirit
• Color a “flat Jesus” and take him on your summer travels
• Blow bubbles, draw on the sidewalk, move that hula hoop, play corn hole
• Learn some words and phrases in another language
• Make some new friends and get to know each other better
• Think of ways you can be light for the world

Wear something red. Bring a lawn chair, if possible, and a nonperishable item for UCHM’s Food Pantry.

Join in Recognizing CHPC’s Graduates and Sunday School Teachers

In worship this week we will recognize these recent graduates:

Dear Beloved of God,

Last week there was another school shooting that shocked the country and brought us to our knees. Over the holiday weekend there were 11 more reported mass shootings. (Mass shooting is defined as multiple victims of gun-related attacks.) It is not hyperbole to state that gun violence is an epidemic in this country. According to Forbes Magazine, guns are now the leading cause of death for children and youth. 

As Christians we are called to pray and act in the best interest of God’s creation. It is difficult to know what to do, but we know that we must do something. I encourage you to continue praying for the families of all victims of gun violence, including those who have been injured, first responders, caregivers of those who will never fully recover, families of the dead, and the families of the perpetrators. Pray for our elected officials that they will do what is right. Pray for the gun lobby that they will see the error of their ways and support common-sense gun laws. 

Look for ways that you can make a difference, even if what you can do seems too small. One thing we can all do is send messages of support to victims. This Sunday, we will have blank notecards and pens available for you to write notes to the families in Uvalde, TX. On Monday, we will mail them to First Presbyterian Church of Uvalde for distribution. You never know if what you write will be just the message to bring hope and comfort to someone.

There are other ways to give as well. Presbyterian Disaster Assistance has reached out to the communities affected by the most recent shootings. Everytown USA (everytown.org) and Moms Demand Action (momsdemandaction.org) are among the reliable organizations for effecting change. Look for, and follow, organizations like these to stay informed and discover opportunities to make a difference. 

Here's something to do this weekend: WEAR ORANGE. We will wear red on Sunday in celebration of Pentecost, but on Friday and Saturday wear something orange to show your support. Go to https://wearorange.org/ to learn about this annual event. 

Lastly, and maybe most importantly: VOTE. Learn which candidates stand for gun legislation and let your voice be heard.

Flowers for Sanctuary

Jean Leake Fund Scholarships

The Jean Leake Fund offers assistance to the children and youth of Crescent Hill Presbyterian Church for camping opportunities. Applications for the Jean Leake Fund are now available. Please contact Patti Marcum at [email protected] or 502-403-8269 to request an application or ask questions. Deadline for applications is June 15. Scholarship applicants will be notified of their award amount by June 30. Payment will be made according to information provided in the application.

Donations for the Hope Village

Committee Meetings June 8

You can be “in the room where it happens”

Presbyterians are known for doing things “decently and in order”—and that means committees! Much of our mission and ministry at Crescent Hill Presbyterian Church starts with the work of these four committees:

Worship (Sunday morning worship, music, special services)

Stewardship (budget, building and grounds)

Nurture (Christian education, spiritual growth, community-building)

Outreach (our witness in the community, nation, world)

These committees usually meet on the second Wednesday of each month, at 6:45 p.m., on Zoom. We meet together for the first 15 minutes to share calendar items and prayer concerns, then break into committees. Anyone is welcome to join us and share your ideas for our life together.
