Dear Beloved of God,
COVID numbers have been rising in recent weeks. Jefferson County is now in the yellow (middle) zone. Although most of our congregation is vaccinated and boosted, we still have reason to be cautious. Several congregation members have contracted COVID in the last few weeks. They have quarantined themselves appropriately to protect others.
Your Re-opening Task Force has been meeting monthly to stay on top of the changes and CDC recommendations. As of now, we will meet as we have been doing. However, if numbers continue to rise and the county goes into the red zone, the Task Force will recommend that we return to masks and physical distancing.
In the meantime, we ask everyone to be diligent in protecting ourselves and each other. Please stay home from worship and other church activities if you have any illness. If you have pre-existing conditions, continue to wear a mask and sit in the designated area of the sanctuary.
During the Sharing of the Peace of Christ, be sensitive to the needs of others. I know we want to hug and shake hands, but it would be wise to refrain from doing so, particularly with folks who are vulnerable. We have gotten a little lax (myself included) and must remember that the risk still exists.
We have been doing well in taking our conversations before and after worship outside. Let’s continue to do this, not congregating in the sanctuary or narthex. The fresh air is good for us and helps protect us from passing germs.
I appreciate your commitment to keeping all members and guests safe.
Peace,
Peggy
