Bob Abrams' 99th Birthday Bash

After worship this Sunday the congregation will join Bob Abrams' family in person for light refreshments and a fun time to celebrate his July 31 birthday. Bob is a faithful, fun-loving member of our church family and we are excited to recognize this special day together. COVID, of course, will have us all masked and we’ll take other extra safety precautions. Sadly, we won’t be doing Zoom, but we hope that all who can meet us at church will come and join in the fun.

There will be no session or joint committee meetings this month.

The Hope Village Needs:

Cedar Ridge Camp Worship and Picnic is Back!!!!!

August 14

Another CHPC tradition will be renewed August 14, when our community gathers at Cedar Ridge Camp for worship and a picnic. Peggy Hinds will be preaching. Worship begins at 11:00 a.m. at the lakeside pavilion, with the picnic to follow. The pavilion is easily accessible for those with limited mobility. There will be no worship service at the church and no Zoom option available August 14.

Ben Langley and Jerry Van Marter will be tending the grill, as always. The rest of the meal will be potluck. The pool will be open for swimming from 1 - 3 pm.

So bring your lawn chairs, sunscreen and a dish to share to Cedar Ridge Camp on August 14. For further information, contact Jerry Van Marter (Worship Committee) or Soni Castleberry (Nurture Committee). See you at Cedar Ridge Camp on August 14!!!!!

Can We Talk?

Tools for Conversations about Racial Justice,

a 2-part virtual workshop with Cory Lockhart, activist, artist, teacher

Tuesday, August 23 and 30

12 - 2 p.m.

Do you wish you felt more skillful when talking about racial justice? Do you either avoid the difficult conversations or get into them, only to find yourself frustrated, dismayed, tongue-tied, or uncertain? How do we help create space so that both parties have a chance to speak honestly and be heard? How do we move from “us” and “them” to a greater sense of shared vision? How do we express ourselves in a way that is authentic, clear, and grounded?

An Opportunity for Our Youth to Be Confirmed This Year!

Mark and I will be leading a Mid-Kentucky Presbytery confirmation retreat on October 21-23, 2022, at Camp Cedar Ridge. We will be using Mark's new confirmation curriculum, “Commissioned to Change the World: Confirmation for the Matthew 25 Church,” published by the Presbyterian Outlook. “Commissioned to Change the World” provides a missional approach to confirmation.

If you know of teenagers in our church who have not been confirmed, please let them know of this opportunity and ask them to contact me at [email protected].

Peace,

Peggy

Flowers for Sanctuary

Summer is upon us and we are asking that you share whatever flowers you have in bloom for the sanctuary. Please contact David Gibson, Music Director, at [email protected] if you can bring a bouquet.

July 28: Happy Birthday, Peggy!

We are grateful for the months you have been our transitional pastor. We know you work hard to minister to us and with God's help to move us forward as a congregation. Now's our time to give a big shout out to you on your special day. Much peace and love to you, Peggy!
