Welcome, Ken!

The Personnel Committee and Session are delighted to announce that Ken Cordle has accepted the position of Music Director. Please join in welcoming Ken to CHPC.

If you have been in worship the past two Sundays, you have already heard Ken play the piano and organ. He brings a wealth of experience and talent to this position. He has been singing, playing, leading music/worship in churches for a long time, serving numerous churches and denominations around the Louisville metro area. 

Ken received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Anderson University (Anderson, IN), Master of Religious Education from Anderson University School of Theology, and he attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (Louisville, KY), studying music. When not sitting at the organ or piano, he is a realtor, serving the greater Louisville area. His greatest pride is serving as dog dad to Stella & Joy.

Session Action Summary

The Session held a called meeting on Sunday, August 6, to meet with a potential pastor candidate. They also took action on a motion from the Personnel Committee to call Ken Cordle as Music Director, and a motion from the Building Use Task Force to lease space to a violin instructor who wants to use the library for private lessons. Negotiations with her continue and more information will be shared when arrangements are finalized.

Cedar Ridge Camp Worship and Picnic – August 20

Everyone is invited to gather at Cedar Ridge Camp for worship and a picnic on Sunday, August 20. Peggy Hinds will be preaching. Worship begins at 11:00 a.m. at the lakeside pavilion, with the picnic to follow. The pavilion is easily accessible for those with limited mobility. There will be no worship service at the church on August 20, though we will have the Zoom option.

Ben Langley and Jerry Van Marter will be tending the grill, as always. Drinks will be furnished. The rest of the meal will be potluck. The pool will be open for swimming after lunch.

Bring your lawn chairs, sunscreen and a dish to share to Cedar Ridge Camp on August 20. For further information, contact Jerry Van Marter (Worship Committee) or Soni Castleberry (Nurture Committee). 

Curbing Gun Violence

Do you have an idea that you think could effectively address the growing crisis of gun violence in our community? The Crescent Hill Community Council is sponsoring a competition, “Curbing Gun Violence in Jefferson County.” A $6,100 prize (and possibly more) will be awarded for the best idea. Entries will be accepted until October 4. More information is available here.

Not a Creature Was Stirring

In hopes of discouraging creatures stirring in the sacristy, we are looking for an empty popcorn tin in which to store communion elements. If you have a popcorn tin to donate, please contact Patti Marcum (pdwmarcum@gmail.com). Thanks.

Braille Readers Theater presents,

"Their Story, Their Song"

Crescent Hill Presbyterian Church will host the Braille Readers Theater production of “Their Story, Their Song,” by B.T. Kimbrough.

The play is about Fanny Crosby, the 19th-century hymn writer. In Braile Readers Theater, all the actors are blind. They read their scripts in braille or on an electronic device called a braille notetaker. Costumes, gestures, the set, and minimal stage movement help bring people who are sighted into the world of the play.

It opens Friday, August 25, at 7 p.m., with another performance at 1p.m. on Saturday, August 26. The CHPC congregation is invited. There is no ticket fee, but reservations are required and can be made by emailing kcarpenter@aph.org or calling 502-899-2213.
