Annual Meeting and Potluck February 23

All are encouraged to stay after worship on Sunday, February 23, for a potluck lunch followed by the congregation’s annual meeting in the Henry Young Fellowship Hall. This will be a time to celebrate what God is doing at Crescent Hill Presbyterian Church as we receive annual reports from the various committees and mission groups that carry out the work of our congregation. If you are able, please bring a generous dish to share.

Water Line Update

On Tuesday, February 18, the Louisville Water company will be replacing the leaded pipes from the meter to the inside of the church at the low, low price of $ -0-. Monies were received by the City of Louisville from the federal government for infrastructure and lead abatement. This project was headed by Jack Marcum and has been on the deferred maintenance list for some time.

Donation from a Neighbor

A neighbor of Crescent Hill Presbyterian Church has sent a donation of $63.38 to the church and a note of appreciation for the charging stations in our parking lot. The neighbor says he recently purchased a new electric pickup truck, not realizing that he would have to upgrade his electric service to install a charging station at his home. Until his home charger is ready, he has had to use other chargers in the community, and ours is most convenient. In his note he said he “would like to pay in full for use of the charger.”

Prayer and Action for Middle East

If you are struggling with your feelings about all that is happening in the Middle East and yearn for shared information, prayers, and other possible responses, please join our small group. It includes folks from CHPC as well as other faith communities. Here is our regular schedule:

• 1st Thursday each month, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., we meet in homes so location will vary. Please bring a light lunch snack to share.
• Other Thursdays each month, 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., we are on Zoom.

What Presbyterians Believe About Church Sessions

The body of elders elected by a congregation to govern a congregation is called a “session.” In one sense, sessions represent the other members of the congregation. Even more importantly, they seek to discover and represent the will of Christ as they govern. Presbyterian elders (also known as “ruling elders”) are both elected and ordained. The pastor of a congregation (ordained as a “Minister of Word and Sacrament,” also known as a “teaching elder”) moderates session meetings and is part of the session.
