Summary of June Session Actions
- Approved the minutes of the May 24 regular meeting, the June 4 congregational meeting, and the June 18 called meeting.
- There are a number of people who have not responded to the membership letter or the follow up email. The Session voted to send another email letting them know that they will be placed on the Inactive list unless we hear otherwise from them by July 15. (The email has been sent and some people are responding.)
-
Approved a pay increase for the Administrative Assistant. When Megan was hired as Administrative Assistant, the salary was set at $18 per hour during the 90-day probationary period. The Personnel Committee recommended a raise in pay to $20 pending successful completion of probation, which ends on July 14.
-
Approved a letter to be sent to former music director Debbie Dierks ,and approved placing a plaque in the choir room honoring her 36 years of service. Click here to view the letter.

Discussion of Pastoral Search
Rev. John Odom, Mid-Kentucky Presbytery General Presbyter, joined the meeting. He offered a variety of ideas that churches could use if they would think outside of the box. There are advantages and disadvantages to each of the possibilities.
Options that have been used by other congregations:
-
Temporary Stated Supply (This option has already been approved for CHPC.)
- A pastor could work in some other capacity, either full time or part time, along with serving the church. This arrangement has often been called “tent-making.” Beechmont Church is one example.
- Two congregations could be yoked together, served by one full-time pastor. Greensburg and Ebeneezer are one example. The two churches need to partner and work together closely. They could plan joint ministry and mission. Each church would still have its own Session, but some kind of Council would allow communication between the two.
- Sell the building and meet as a church elsewhere.
Many issues were discussed in response to questions from the Elders. Peggy asked if the Session would like to follow up with any churches regarding a possible yoked call. Eva and Peggy will talk with Rev. Angela Johnson at Grace Hope Church. Jack, Barbara, and Peggy will talk with Rev. Abbi Heimach-Snipes at Covenant Community Church.
The Session has been working on our Mission Discernment Profile (formerly the Mission Information Form). Your comments are welcome (see below for link). Keep in mind that there is a character limit on answers to the narrative questions. The Session has worked hard to be honest and open while staying within the limits.
Peggy offered the following time-line for the process:
July:
1. Complete a draft of the MDP.
2. Send to the Administrative Commission for their feedback and get the congregation’s feedback. (Please click here to see the draft of the MDP. Send your feedback to the church office.)
3. A final review by Session, then a vote to approve it.
August:
4. Send MDP to John Odom and COM for their review.
5. Start disseminating – advertising position via surrounding presbyteries, on Facebook, and maybe The Presbyterian Outlook.
6. If a broader search is needed, post on Church Leadership Connection.
September
7. Interviews
