2026 Elder/Deacon Retreat

The 2026 deacon and elder retreat at Sisters of Loretto met the second weekend of January. We started in stillness but ended with much creativity, energy, and hope for the future. Through the course of the retreat the deacons and elders worked together to envision the future of Crescent Hill Presbyterian Church and the new directions that we should focus on in the upcoming year. At the end of the retreat, we summed up 5 attainable goals for CHPC in 2026, which include:

1. Sculpture dedication to be held March 22nd. All of the major pressing news outlets along with denominational leaders will be invited to participate in the unveiling of our commissioned art piece for the pavilion called "Healing the Earth" by Craig Kaviar. If you are interested in helping with this event the deacons and elders working on this endeavor are Ben Langley, Sony Castleberry, and Anita Cary.

2. Kitchen remodel with corresponding grant for ministry to be submitted to Mid-Kentucky Presbytery. If you are interested in helping on this project, the team members are Andrea Trautwein, Aaron Baer, and Claudia Foulkes.

3. The church to finish the approved plan for solar panels and encourage Master Gardeners in their water catchment system, to be installed.

4. We are planning a summer music series starting the first Friday in June through September called “First Fridays”. There will be a live band from 6:00 to 8:00 PM along with varied and eclectic food trucks and a kids’ corner for children's activities. If you would like to help plan and participate in this activity, the group working on it is Beth Yeager, Aaron Davidson, and Pastor Tami.

5. Christian education focus- plan of various Christian education opportunities where we are able to have a safe space to talk about big questions and allow for generous listening of our neighbor to occur. Subjects might include Spiritual vs Religious, What happens after we die?, Building a Legacy in Christ, and Does Sin and Salvation really matter?

While not an official goal because we discussed so much, we are also going to start implementing Game Day Tuesdays at 1pm (watch the Westminster Weekly or our website calendar for the start date) to play Mahjong and other group card games like Euchre, Hand and Foot, and Bunco. Evening family entertainment being planned includes bingo and family movie nights. Please contact Pastor Tami if you would like to lend a hand on these fun and exciting ways to build fellowship and community.

2026 Per Capita $43.75

What is per Capita?

The official definition: “Per capita is an opportunity for all communicant members of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) through the governing bodies [mid councils] to participate equally, responsibly, and interdependently by sharing the cost of coordination and evaluation of mission; and of performing ecclesiastical, legislative, and judicial functions that identify a Reformed Church, while at the same time strengthening the sense of community among all Presbyterians” (GA Minutes, Part I, 1995).

In essence: Per capita is a set amount of money (apportionment) per member that congregations pay to the larger Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Said another way, it is a Presbyterian Covenant Community Fund — part of the glue that holds Presbyterians together. Because every Presbyterian shares in the benefit of the PC(USA)’s system of government, the expenses associated with coordinating and performing the functions of that system should be shared by everyone as well.

Each congregational member is encouraged to pay this amount for each person in their household. Please put on the memo line of your check that it is for Per Capita. This can also be paid online through the church’s website www.crescenthill.church

Did You Know?

What Presbyterians Believe...

Reformed confessions have a temporary authority (and are therefore subject to revision and correction) because faith in the living God present and at work in the risen Christ through the Holy Spirit means always to be open to hear a new and fresh word from the Lord.

As the multiplicity of Reformed confessions indicates, Reformed Christians have never been content to learn only how Christians before them discerned and responded to the word and work of God; they have continually asked in every new time, place, and situation, “What is the living Lord of Scripture saying and doing here and now, and what do we have to say and do to be faithful and obedient in our time?”

The Barmen Declaration speaks for the best intentions of the whole Reformed tradition when it says, “Jesus Christ, as he is attested for us in Holy Scripture, is the one Word of God which we have to hear and which we have to trust and obey in life and in death.”
