Westmoor Families-
Welcome back to 2021! I hope that the winter break was a time of rest and rejuvenation for all. We are looking forward to being back in person on January 19 for the second semester. During this time any students that are moving from their current placement will begin in their new learning environment.
Over the next few weeks teachers will be completing report cards and parents will be emailed information to access their child's report card on Friday, January 22. Please look for an email from Vicky Mazur on this date.
Friday, January 15 is an early dismissal day and students will until lunchtime. Teachers will be planning and working on student report cards and meeting with colleagues in the afternoon.
Kindergarten registration is fast approaching. If you have a child that will be 5 years old by September 1, 2021, please see the kindergarten registration item in the District Information section below.
Wednesday is the materials pick up at 4:30-5:30 for those families who are in the Remote Learning Academy. See you all then!

Fourth Grade: Request for Advanced Math Placement Review
If your child is not currently placed in advanced math and you wish to request a math placement review, a parent nomination form must be completed and returned to the school principal and the building GT services coordinator by January 19, 2020.
Please note, all students are reviewed for math placement in the winter and spring of their 5th-grade year. This process determines placement for 6th grade into one of three math courses: Grade 6, Accelerated 6 or Pre-Algebra 6.

Valentine's Day
With our continued focus on safety precautions, we will not be able to allow students to exchange Valentine's Day cards this year. Teachers will still find ways to celebrate the holiday but we will not be able to follow our tradition of students bringing cards/gifts to pass out.

Updated In-person Health and Safety Guidelines
If your children are enrolled for in-person learning second semester, you should have received Dr. Hewitt's letter yesterday that included links to our updated health and safety guidelines. The guidelines have been updated with the latest health protocols and modifications we have made to accommodate the colder weather.
Whether your family is new to in-person learning this semester or returning, please take a few minutes to review the elementary guidelines.

Spanish Schedule Revised Starting the Week of January 19
Starting the week of January 19 and continuing throughout the second semester, Grade 1 - 5 RLA students will attend Spanish class four days a week, an increase of one day per week. This additional time will provide students opportunities to practice skills to ensure commensurate progress with onsite students. Your child’s teacher will communicate the day and time of the additional Spanish instruction.
MAP Testing Begins January 19 for Students in Grades 2-5
Our winter MAP testing window will be January 19 - February 26. Like fall, we will be able to administer this test remotely to our RLA students. As a reminder, MAP is a computer-adaptive test and adjusts the difficulty of questions as a child works on the test. This means that your child may see questions about the content he or she has not seen before or been taught. To accurately reflect your child’s strengths and to help your child’s teacher know what he/she needs to learn next, please don’t step in and help your child with answers. The most important thing you can do is ask your children to do their best and reassure them that there are questions about concepts they haven’t learned yet, but will soon!
Click here for additional details and a FAQ related to remote MAP testing. Your child’s teacher will share the specific dates and times that your child will take these assessments soon.
RLA Material Pickup & Library Reminder
The next materials pick up will be Wednesday, January 13, from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Your child’s teacher will communicate if your child has new materials or library books for pickup. We would also ask that you return library books so that we receive books back by their due dates. Students joining RLA for the second semester will be included in this pickup, if materials are needed.

Greater Chicago Food Depository
Giving Campaign
We know many families have been impacted by the pandemic and associated economic concerns this year. During this holiday season, the elementary schools in District 28 are hoping to work together to bring food, dignity, and hope to our neighbors across Cook County who are experiencing hunger. Please join us in a virtual food drive running today through January 15th! Every donation to our food drive provides nourishing food for those at risk of hunger. Every $1 can help provide 3 meals! Your support makes an immediate impact to take hunger off the table. So far we have raised more than $7,500. Our goal is to raise $28,000 for the Greater Chicago Food Depository! Click here for more information or to donate. We can do this!
