Westmoreland Windows Weekly E-News
Wednesday, November 28, 2016
(Sorry, our "Monday" email is a bit late this week!)
Welcome New Members
The following people officially joined Westmoreland on Sunday:

Maia and Marcus Larsson have been visiting Westmoreland since October 2015.  Markus is the founder and executive director of Life Asset, a non-profit that gives micro-loans to low-income entrepreneurs around the DC area. In his spare time he enjoys family, traveling, studying the inner spiritual journey, and spending time in nature.  Maia Larsson is a healthcare attorney in the Life Sciences and Government Strategies practice at the law firm of Foley Hoag.  When not at her professional job, she enjoys time with her family, studying and speaking Korean, cooking, photography and swimming. Together, Markus and Maia are the parents of Lucas, age 3 ½ and Jacob, 10 months. They came to us from Church of the Savior.

Rick Sullivan has been visiting Westmoreland since September.  He holds a Masters Degree in Divinity and a Certificate in Medicine, Theology and Culture from Duke University.  On joining here, he will become a Member In Discernment as he pursues a call to ministry in the United Church of Christ.  Currently he is serving as a chaplain at American University as the Associate in Community Engagement. His leisure pursuits include film, literature, technology, theology and philosophy. He joined by Letter of Transfer from Newark United Methodist Church, Newark, DE.

Charu Vijayakumar has been visiting Westmoreland since November 2015. She works for Dexis Consulting monitoring and evaluating global development projects.  In that capacity she travels a great deal around the world so we are happy when she is "in country" and can join us for worship. She lives in Friendship Heights, Chevy Chase. In her leisure time she enjoys reading, cooking and dance.  She joined as an Associate Member and is retaining her full membership at her home church, Olmstead Community Church, Olmstead Falls, OH.

Your order can be mailed to the church, dropped in the Offering plate, or delivered to the church office. Please write "poinsettia" on the memo line of your check. StillReading Book Group
Sunday, January 22, 4:30-6:00pm, Parlor

We will discuss Last Orders by Graham Swift. Awarded the Booker Prize in 1996, this novel traces the relationships among a group of friends traveling together to carry out their friend's "last orders"-scattering his ashes from a pier. In this framework-reminiscent of Faulkner's As I Lay Dying-Swift explores love, guilt, loyalty, betrayal, friendship, and resentment before closing on a note of transcendent understanding. Please join us for discussion and snacks.
