PRESIDENT'S LETTER
Dear Ladies,
We have so many events to look forward to this Fall and so many ways to contribute and be involved in our Club.
Sip & Savor...an evening of wine tasting, delectable hors d'oeuvres and live music. Please mark your calendars and invite friends to attend on
Saturday evening, October 27. Treat all your senses to this fine evening, planned for us and our guests by Co-Chairs, Christina McVaney and Gloria Smithson.
You will find additional details under Ways & Means
During October, our
Clothing Drive, currently in progress, goes into fifth gear. We are gratefully receiving gently used clothing, and accessories - women's, men's, teen's and children's. All coats, clothing, shoes, handbags, jewelry and accessories are accepted and needed. So many wonderful donations (Yes, fur coats are welcome!) have come in, but we need more to ensure a successful Clothing Tag Sale in November. So make room for your new wardrobe and bring us those items you are not going to wear again, knowing someone else will enjoy them. Thank you for your donations; kindly keep them coming!
October Club Day with New York Times best-selling author Jane Green is enough of a draw, but before Lunch, in our living room, the various
Special Interest Groups will tell you about which groups you might find most enjoyable. All groups are open and welcome new members. Try a new group ...new friendships and good times await!
Also, on Wednesday evening, October 25, our Membership Committee will host a Wine & Cheese Reception to welcome new and prospective members. Why not invite a friend to join the Westport Woman's Club and plan to attend this event.
So, as you can see, there are plenty of opportunities for us to come together and join in. Let's be a part of it all!
With love and thanks to all,
Dorothy

If you have a serious food allergy or are a vegetarian, please let me know. The cost for lunch is $20.00.

The Domestic Violence Crisis Center is in need of Care Bags for the women who go into their safe houses. We would like to collect the following items and then assemble them into the bags for the women. You may drop these items off at the Club. A collection box will be located outside the office.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk - 2017
Date: Sunday, October 15
Time: 9:00 am
Place: Sherwood Island State Park, Westport
In commemoration of October's
Breast Cancer Awareness Month, please mark your calendars
for the
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk
on
Sunday, October 15,
at Sherwood Island State Park. As we have done for the past several years, Woman's Club members (and their friends and family) will be walking together as a group to raise funds for breast cancer research and to show support for all the women - themselves or loved ones - who have experienced this disease.
We will meet at the flag pole near the pavilion at 9:00 am. Many walkers wear something pink, jackets, hats, scarves, etc.
Please go to the website for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and register, either to walk or to make a donation, under the Westport Woman's Club team.
For further information or to let her know if you will be walking, you may contact Audrey Rabinowitz at
[email protected]
or 203-227-6010.
Whether or not you walk or make a donation, use this breast cancer awareness month as a reminder (for yourself, friends and family members) to make an appointment for a mammogram. Early detection and regular exams save lives.
Thank you.

BOOK REVIEW
Date: Thursday, October 19
Time: 1:00 pm
Place: Living Room
The book for our next discussion is
"The Nest" by Cynthia Sweeney.
This is a story about the power of family, the possibilities of friendship, the ways we depend upon one another and the ways we let each other down. In this tender, entertaining and deftly written debut, Cynthia Sweeney brings a remarkable cast of characters to life to illuminate what money does to relationships, what happens to our ambitions over the course of time, and the fraught yet unbreakable ties we share with those we love.
The Library has copies saved for us.

BYOB FRIDAY
Date: Friday, October 20
Time: 4:00 - 5:30 pm
Place: Clubhouse Kitchen
BYOB Friday's monthly congeniality continues Friday, October 20!
Please swing by the Kitchen on Friday, October 20, anytime from 4:00 to 5:30 pm. You'll be glad you did! Whether you are new to the WWC or a member since "forever," this is an easy and congenial way to introduce yourself, learn some (possibly humorous) WWC history/anecdotes and tap into the wide--and amazing!--array of fellow members' life experiences.
"Bring something to sip and nibbles to share. It won't be the same if you're not there!"
As always, we operate picnic style, bringing our own simple set-ups and serving implements, then disappearing without footprints or fingerprints.
|
BUNCO
Date: Tuesday, October 17
Time: 7:00 pm - "Chat & Chew," 7:30 pm - Game Begins
Cost: $5.00
Come join us!
All are welcome...no experience necessary.
Come out for a night of food, fun and
fellowship.
Just sign up on the bulletin board in the foyer and get ready for a great night!

Time: 1:30 pm

On Tuesday, October 10, at 1:30 pm, "Gary Z. of Stamford" will conduct a floral demonstration in Bedford Hall, focusing on European trends.
As a Cornell University trained horticulturalist and educator, Gary Zinsmeyer has been designing unique floral arrangements for offices, hotels, churches and synagogues, restaurants, and private residences for over thirty years. Gary uses the world's best quality flowers in interesting combinations to create arrangements with great visual impact. Gary's creations are currently on display at the Artisan Restaurant at the Delamar Hotel in Southport.
All WWC members are welcome to attend this Garden program. Area Garden clubs will also be invited. There is no admission fee. There will be a drawing for Gary's arrangements at the end of the event. Refreshments will be served.
Reservations are required. If you wish to attend, please contact Jerilyn Deveau by Friday, October 6.

FOOD CLOSET
Our Food Closet has been the lucky recipient of a recent food drive at Staples High School. Fortunately, this helped to partially replenish our shelves, which had become pretty bare after this past summer's many requests.
It would be wonderful if you could help out the Food Closet by bringing in at least one of the following:
Tuna Helper
Chicken Helper
Sugar (l lb.)
Stuffing Mix
Raisins
We would appreciate receiving these food items on October Club Day, or you may drop them off at the WWC office at any time.
Thank you for your support!

The Group usually meets for lunch and conversation on the third Tuesday of every month except January. Each member is expected to form part of a cooking, set up and clean up group once during the season which runs from September to May, and we also have a couple of pot lucks. Dues are $45.00 for the season and your cooking group expenses are fully refunded. If you would like to try one meeting to see if Gourmet Group is for you, the guest fee is $20.00, which is refundable if you join the group and pay dues.

This month, we'll be trying something different. I hope your sense of adventure is active, for a relative newcomer calls us, Bistro Mediterranean. I've dined there several times, and enjoyed every morsel. They offer tapas, salads, as well as larger plates, and a $14.00 prix fixe luncheon.
Please let me know by

At this fundraiser you will be able to taste a wide variety of wines, sample a delicious array of seasonal appetizers, participate in a raffle, and enjoy a lovely evening of fun and fellowship while supporting our club.
Our evening's wine partner has also agreed to share a percentage of any SIP & SAVOR wine sales that evening. So plan ahead, bring your shopping list, and order needed wines for Thanksgiving, December holiday events, hostess gifts, gift-giving, and support our club with your wine purchases.
Tickets are $60. Ticket information will be available soon, so please watch for future email updates and on our club website. We are working to get an online ticket sales option to you as soon as possible.
