Founder's Corner | A Message from Tim O'Hagan

Welcome, Leaders and Language Advocates,

As we launch this latest edition of the Languages 4 newsletter, I’m thrilled to share the foundations of our work, which are rooted in the energy and dedication of language departments across Indian Country. Conversations have inspired me with leaders and advocates who are deeply committed to preserving and revitalizing Indigenous languages.

With the challenge of limited speakers spread across vast regions, scalable technology has become an essential partner in supporting both teachers and learners. By providing opportunities for repetition, immediate feedback, and consistent practice, technology complements and enhances traditional language instruction—bringing confidence-building support to communities at scale.

I am also really excited about the article by my sister (and Director) Lorelei O'Hagan, sharing her personal language learning journey and how it relates to the goals and innovations of Languages 4 projects. It is fun, engaging, and worthy of a read.

Thank you for your continued engagement and support in this important work. Together, we are empowering Indigenous communities to reclaim their languages, preserve cultural heritage, and strengthen connections for generations to come.

Miigwech (Thank you in Ojibwe),
