What Bill C-9 could mean for 
hate crime laws and Jewish Canadians


Legal experts and Jewish advocacy leaders examined Bill C-9 in a recent CIJA-hosted webinar, exploring how the proposed legislation could strengthen Canada’s response to hate-motivated crimes and hate propaganda. While the bill introduces new tools for law enforcement and protections for targeted communities, panelists noted gaps that remain and emphasized that freedom of religion and conscience remain constitutionally protected.

How Federation is building partnerships to address antisemitism


As antisemitism rises globally, the Jewish Federation of Ottawa is strengthening alliances beyond the Jewish community through education and partnership. From cross-sector training with United Way to targeted outreach through the Community Engagement Advisory Committee, Federation’s advocacy work is building awareness, deepening understanding, and growing a network of informed allies committed to standing with the Jewish community.

J-Fellows program kicks off with 
new cohort of emerging Jewish leaders


The 2026 J-Fellows cohort launched its five-month leadership journey earlier this month, bringing together emerging young adult leaders from across Ottawa’s Jewish community. Led by Young Adult and Newcomer Associate Oren Baray, and community co-chairs, the opening session featured insights from Federation CEO Adam Silver and EY Partner Aaron Smith, setting the stage for mentorship, collaboration, and innovative projects aimed at strengthening Jewish life in Ottawa.
