What Can You Do With a Day?

Dear CRC,

What can you do with a day?

Monday morning, I stopped in to say hello to volunteers in our Food Pantry. It was the time of day when both the sorting shift and the shopping shift were all there. It was bustling with activity. We had a volunteer group come in the day prior to deep clean the space, so it was sparkling clean. I said "hi" to Lee, who had overseen the group for us, and who also is a Monday volunteer. I checked in with Christine Z., who had been volunteering at the Resale Store on Sunday and is also a volunteer on Mondays at the FNC.

Chris M., who has been frequently jumping in as a substitute this past month, was there along with Kathy, who had also come in as a sub. Chris was wearing orange to support Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month.

Volunteers were preparing for the rest of the day while chatting with one another in what was clearly a valued and fun community for them.

Just one shift at the Food Pantry gave a great picture of the many ways volunteers show up day after day, going above and beyond.

Not only as Food Pantry or Resale Store support, or as committee members or operations help. You represent the heart of CRC, you advocate for healthy relationships and compassion for the community. You give of your time selflessly. It is incredibly encouraging and humbling for me to see. Read on to get a glimpse of the amazing work being done, and new ways you can participate!

Warmly,

Sara Rosenbaum, CVA

February Updates

Volunteers Advocate for Healthy Relationships

CRC Volunteers wear orange to support February's Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. You can learn more about CRC's work to promote healthy relationships here.

Encinitas Rotary Brings the Fun

Thank you to the Encinitas Rotary for coming out on February 10th to clean our Food Pantry! Says volunteer lead Lee, "Yesterday was another fun, amazing, educational, music-filled cleanup. The Rotary club was one of our funniest groups yet. Constantly cracking jokes and one-liners, and I think I heard 'This is not your dad's Rotary Club' several times!"

Resale Store Volunteers Make Rainy Days Brighter

Seacoast Church Serves the Community

A huge shoutout to long-time supporter Seacoast Church for spending your Sunday with us! On February 25th, Seacoast sent teams out to both the Food Pantry and to the Encinitas Resale Store to deep clean and organize as needed. Words like "enthusiastic, hard-working, fun, and positive attitudes" were used to describe both groups. We love seeing young and old(er) out volunteering together!

Volunteer of the Month

Congratulations to CRC's Volunteer of the Month Kate Ostrove!

Kate is a volunteer at our San Marcos Resale Store. Nominating Staff person Mary Cunningham writes, "Kate is an awesome worker; she doesn't like to leave a job half done. Kate is very humble, and she's willing to do the jobs no one else want to do. She doesn't mind getting her hands dirty.

Kate always asks great questions and wants to know why we do the things we do. Although Kate has a family to take care of, she takes the time out of her busy family life to volunteer her time with us. She truly has a heart of gold!

Kate, and other volunteers, treat volunteering like a second job. Although they don't get paid, they bring a sense of accomplishment, pride and value in the work that they do."

Thank you Kate for your hard work and dedication to CRC!! We are grateful!
