Dear Friend,
When people think of hunger, they often imagine empty pantries or skipped meals. But in children, hunger often shows up in far more subtle ways.
Here in Bexar County, nearly 1 in 4 children live with food insecurity. That means thousands of children in our own neighborhoods face weekends and evenings uncertain about when they will eat again.
Teachers and school staff tell us they see hunger in many forms:
- A child who asks about food constantly and never seems picky about what is offered.
- A student who struggles to pay attention in class or suddenly falls behind.
- A child who stuffs snacks in a pocket to take home for later.
- A little one who becomes anxious on Fridays, worried about what the weekend will bring.
Children rarely say, “I’m hungry.” Instead, hunger shows up in their behavior, their learning, and their sense of belonging. And unless someone is looking closely, it can be easy to miss.
This is why your support matters so much. Every Snack Pak you help provide brings comfort and stability. It reassures a child that someone cares, and that food will be there when they need it.
This September is Hunger Action Month—a time to raise awareness and take meaningful steps to fight hunger in our community. You can make a difference by:
-
Volunteering to help pack or deliver Snack Paks.
-
Donating to ensure children have food for the weekends.
-
Sharing this message with friends and family so more people understand what child hunger looks like.
Together, we can turn awareness into action and continue our mission to ensure no child in Bexar County goes hungry.
Thank you for standing with us, and with the children who count on you.
With heartfelt gratitude,
