What Comes After “Alleluia”?
A message from Mtr. Jean Long, Associate Rector
| |
On Easter Sunday, we sang it with everything we had: Jesus Christ is risen today, Alleluia! But after the hymns end and the lilies fade, we find ourselves back in the ordinary rhythm of life, driving home, making lunch, and starting a new week.
Fr. John named this so well in his Easter message. The question that follows every Easter is simply: “And then what?” How do we take that eager longing for new life and allow it to become something real and tangible in our everyday lives?
At St. Andrew’s, we see this new life most clearly in the neighbors who find their way to us each Sunday. They come with hope, looking for connection and for a faith community where they can belong. Welcoming them is a shared ministry of resurrection work. It is how we participate in the new life God is breathing into this community right now.
We invite you to consider whether any of these roles align with the ways you feel called to share your gifts this season:
-
The Welcomers: If you naturally notice a new face or enjoy making people feel at ease, consider serving as a Greeter or Welcome Table Host on Sunday mornings. You are the first face of Christ many will see when they enter our doors.
-
The Creatives: If you have an eye for beauty or a knack for the “little things,” help is needed to curate our Welcome Bags or ensure our front entrance offers a warm, welcoming presence. This ministry helps visitors feel expected and cherished before a word is spoken.
-
The Encouragers: If your gift is quiet faithfulness or a desire for deeper connection, the Birthday Card Ministry or serving as a Connection Partner are vital roles. Connection Partners act as companions, walking alongside a newcomer as they get to know the St. Andrew’s community.
Continuing the Journey
Resurrection also means tending to our own spiritual growth. Two formation opportunities begin soon to help us take that next step together:
-
I Will, With God’s Help (Thursdays, 6 p.m., beginning April 16): A deep dive into living our baptismal promises in a complicated world.
-
Welcome to the Church Year (Fridays, 10:30 a.m., beginning April 24): An exploration of the symbols and rhythms that shape our faith.
-
Finally, at the end of the month, our Haiti Fundraiser offers a way to carry this Easter joy outward into the world.
Take Your Step
The “Take a Step into Resurrection” card is the central place to sign up for classes or join any of these welcome ministries. To participate, click here, fill out a card on Sunday morning, or reach out to Mtr. Jean at jean@standrewkc.org.
Let’s step into this new life together.

HVAC Update: No Heat or Cooling This Sunday
As we begin this Eastertide, some new life is coming to our facility, too. The church’s HVAC systems are being replaced, funded by special gifts from several generous parishioners, led by Frank Thompson. The work began the day after Easter, and the first system to be replaced serves the nave (our worship space). We anticipate the new nave system being in place early in the coming week. But, in the meantime, we will have no heat or air conditioning in the worship space this Sunday, April 12. Given the rainy forecast, we’ll have dehumidifiers on hand to take the edge off the moisture. But with a low of 66 and high of 72 on Sunday, we’ve been blessed with a good day not to have heating or cooling in place. Looking to the week ahead, the units serving the rest of the church’s ground level will be replaced next, with new units coming online over the following two to three weeks.
| | Easter is not just a single day. It’s a way of life we follow. That raises a question: What does this look like in my life? At St. Andrew’s, Easter living takes shape over time through community, learning, and prayer. | | |

Books may be purchased online, or copies will be available in the church office for $20 beginning April 9. Please read Chapters 1–2 before April 17.

Adult Spiritual Growth
"We have a policy of not limiting the theological reflection of St. Andrew's members. Groups don't have to get their materials approved by a central authority; in fact, we actively encourage members to start discussion groups that come from different perspectives. That's the Episcopal way." - Fr. John Spicer, Rector
