Pastor's Update

Hi Parkway People!

There's always a question of what to preach in the run-up to an election.

The month of October - filled with debates, ads, and well-funded divisions sent out to people who have probably already made-up their minds and probably will not change. There's always the temptation to preach and push peace or civility - which can be palatable ways of ignoring the real differences between followers of Jesus.

This Sunday, running through the month of October, we'll start a new series called Blame Game

Each week we will look at common ways people decide right from wrong - fairness, care, loyalty, and authority - and why two voters can use the same word in totally different ways. What we'll find in exploring four teachings from the Gospels is that these ways of deciding right from wrong revealed in Jesus often invite us beyond the blue or red columns of our political season.

Josiah Canto Hired as Next Director of Student Ministries at Parkway

I'm happy and excited to announce that Josiah Canto has accepted our offer to become the next Director of Student Ministries at Parkway! Some of y'all were able to meet him and his wife Carren when they were here in person last month and, after meeting with students and the Board, many of you offered glowing reviews and hope that they would soon be a part of Parkway.

Josiah and Carren will do some preplanned travel, pack, and move to Sugar Land over the coming months, and plan to be here at Parkway around December 1st. Stay tuned for ways we will celebrate and welcome them soon!

Plug-In at Parkway

At Parkway, plugging into a Grow Group or a Serving Team is an important part of growing as a follower of Jesus. Check out upcoming ways that you and your family can plug-in:

Hospitality Team: Each week we rely on you to make sure anyone and everyone who gathers at Parkway is welcomed by friendly people, coffee, donuts, and more. If you can hold a door open, say hello, pick up donuts on your way here, brew some coffee - please contact Debbie Mullen at dmullen@parkwayumc.org to get on the Hospitality sign-up list.

Trunk or Treat Sign-Up

Will you decorate the trunk of your car and pass out candy so Parkway can connect with New Territory? Trunk or Treat is one of our big, community - facing events of the year. Pick any theme you want (minus overly scary, gory, etc.), grab some candy, and plan to meet your neighbors at Parkway.
