Change is one of life’s most consistent aspects. So, we have plenty of opportunities to get a lot of practice handling change. How do you deal with change? Sometimes we repeat old habits that never worked the first time around. Sometimes we get angry and anxious. Sometimes we try to exert control. Sometimes we run. Sometimes we listen, learn, stay present in discomfort, and grow.

I remember getting very angry at Roz and Mary when they reached the point in their life that they retired to the hill country. They didn’t deserve my anger. They did look forward to retirement. It just happened to be right in the middle of the worst of the AIDS pandemic and people were dying left and right before treatments advanced. It was all about me. I felt overwhelmed, as if I were about to go under for the third time. I survived. One thing I do to help myself cope with change is to remember all the times I survived. It helps. How do you deal with change? Negatively or positively?

This past Sunday, we launched the pastoral search team recruitment of 5 church members to serve alongside 2 board members, Sharri McGlauthing and Raymond Turner. It is one of the most important decisions a church makes. During this time of change, one of your reactions could be to explore making a difference on the search team. The deadline for applications is this coming Sunday, May 14. Pray and see if this is a way you can be of service. You can download the application HERE.

Our Love Wins Bible conversation begins a new focus this Wednesday, 7pm, in the Gathering Place. It is a great time to join us as we start exploring The Gospel of Paul working through Paul’s letter to the Romans—a community going through a lot of change that he had yet to meet in person. Talking together through Paul’s hopes for a new community is a great way to engage change in our lives. I hope to see you there. If you can’t make every week, it is quite okay to make the weeks that you can!

On the journey with you,

Rev. Troy

Strengthen Your Connections

This event is designed to help members of the LGBTQ+ community (and allies) strengthen their relationships by fostering stronger communication strategies and silencing their own negative thoughts. Coaches Julie Schurr and Christina Morelli will facilitate this dynamic 2 hour online workshop and provide useful tools to help combat many issues that often block effective and healthy connections with others, all while helping each individual as well. The workshop takes place online, and is offered on 3 dates: April 22, May 20, and June 17. Each workshop is limited to 30 participants so that we can best address individual needs during our time together. This workshop is intended to be a safe, non-judgmental space for LGBTQ+ people and their allies. Transphobia, homophobia, racism, or ableism in any form will not be tolerated, and all participants are asked to respect the privacy of others outside of the meeting.

COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS:

TRANSforming - The Bible and the Lives of Transgender Christians

The goal of this book study is to have us as individuals better understand gender terminology, and to hopefully come away with a better understanding of transgender brothers and sisters allowing us to create a more loving, kind and considerate welcome and sense of inclusion for each person; to stand in the gap with them as our legislature continues to hack away at their individual and collective rights.

Join Rev. Vicki and Cathleen Sheil-Hopper for this virtual class June 14 - July 26th, 2023.

Devotional & Prayer Facebook Group

Every Sunday and Wednesday

New Facebook Devotional Discussion Group: "Called Out"

The experience of growing up "different," having one's identity and relationships questioned or downright rejected, shapes the faith of LGBTQ Christians in ways those outside the community cannot fully understand. LGBTQ Christians need spiritual resources that speak to the unique joys and challenges of their journey.

E. Carrington Heath offers one hundred devotions on such topics as trauma, and more to nurture the faith of our LGBTQ siblings and help friends, family, and allies grow in understanding and faith.

Each Sunday and Wednesday, a new devotion from the book will be posted and discussed online. Join the group for notifications of devotion posts.

Invitation to Join Bell Choir

You are invited to learn and practice playing the chime instruments. It's an opportunity of delightful celebration in musical expression. Rehearsal times vary. It's helpful if you can read music but not necessary; just as long as you can count & tap your foot simultaneously.

Come with an open heart and a willing spirit! Email Teri@resurrectionmcc.org for more information.

Come on in and say hello. We are happy to have you.

Amazing things happen when we pray for one another in times of grief and celebrate together in times of joy. Send Requests online here: COMPLETE ONLINE FORM or by texting the word RMCCPRAY to 97000. We hope this electronic method will make it quick and easy to communicate the struggles and triumphs you are experiencing in a way that can provide our Pastoral Care Ministers with the information they need to support and encourage you along your journey. The form allows you to provide your name, contact information, the information about your prayer request or celebration, as well as an easy way to request a contact from a Pastoral Care Minister (only if you indicate you'd like a contact). Based on your preferences we can communicate by text, phone, video chat, or even in-person visits when necessary. We want to hear from you!

ASL Service

If you haven't downloaded the church app, it's important that you do! Each time you attend a service in person or virtually, please CHECK IN so we know you were here. Using the church app is easy! You can find detailed instructions here. We hope you will download it and stay connected!

Pride Charities, our partner agency which operates the food pantry at Resurrection MCC, relies on donations and financial support for the food needed to help the 175 families we assist each month. Please consider picking up a few extra extra bags of rice, beans, cereal, Vienna sausages, canned chicken, canned spam/lunch loaf, canned corn, canned green beans, canned peas, or any of the items found on this list. We are now accepting clothes at this time. To keep you, our volunteers, and our community safe, please place your donations in your trunk or back seat, pull up outside the pantry, stay in your vehicle, and our volunteers will remove the items from your vehicle. Volunteers will also be working inside the Clothes Closet this Saturday from 9 - Noon If you'd like to help sort, hang, and organize clothes, please be sure to wear a face mask. If you do not have a mask, one will be provided to you.

Text Giving is a great way to give electronically. The first time you'd like to give in this way, just text the word GIVE to 281-346-9444. You'll receive a text back asking for the amount of your donation. After you've entered that, you'll receive a link to provide your name, email address, as well as your debit/credit card or bank account information. That's it! And the next time you'd like to give, all you need to do is text a dollar amount to that same phone number, hit send, and you're done! If you'd like to contribute to a special fund, send a text with the words GIVE LIST to 281-346-9444 and you'll receive a reply asking how much you'd like to give, and then another text asking to which of our special funds you'd like your donation applied (i.e. General Gifts & Tithes, Foundation First Activities Building Fund, Texas Winter Storm Relief, Pride Charities Food Pantry, La Casa de Todos).
