WHAT EVERY SCOT NEEDS TO KNOW

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL

We look forward to welcoming our students to the 2025–2026 school year! The first day brings a mix of excitement, joy, nerves, and questions. To help ease the transition, we’ve put together everything Scots needs to know for the first day. If you have additional questions, please first check theWhat Every Scot Needs to Know resource or the Kiltie student handbook.

Bell Schedule

The school day is from 8:10 am to 3:35 pm. School doors open at 7 am. The bell schedules are below. See “Cafeteria” below for breakfast and lunch service hours.

Student Class Schedules, IDs, Parking Permits, Cellphone Pouches

Student Class Schedules

Every student will need to access their schedule before starting school tomorrow. Please have your student bring their hard copy class schedule issued at registration (students will not be able to access their schedule on their phones once entering school).

If your student missed registration, including make-up registration today from 12:30-2:30 pm, Fall 2025 semester schedules will be available in Skyward beginning today at 8:00 am. Again, please have your student print a hard copy of their schedule.

All students should check Skyward, as some changes may have occurred. Please watch for school communication regarding scheduling changes and level-down request forms. For other schedule-related questions, students should contact their assigned counselor in the Counseling Office or by email. The Counseling office is located in the hallway adjacent to the Cafeteria dining area.

IDs, Parking Permits, and Cellphone Pouches

If your student missed registration, they will need to print their schedule in Skyward (see above) and report to the cafeteria to pick up a Yondr cellphone pouch and parking permit (if purchased, bring driver’s license). Student ID photos will be taken for the ID card.

Drop-Off & Pick-Up Recommendations & Ongoing Construction on Lovers Lane

  • The southern portion of the Lovers and Douglas intersection is currently closed with an expected reopening on Labor Day. For more information on this phase of the Miracle Mile improvements, please visit the City of UP’s website and follow City of UP Texas on Instagram.
  • Drop off students AT LEAST 10-15 minutes early to avoid high traffic times – with the Lovers and Douglas intersection closed, it is important to plan your route to and from school beforehand and LEAVE EARLY!
  • Please avoid using the alleys to travel to and from school
  • Please pull completely to the curb to drop off
  • Please do not drop off students directly in front of the student entrance
  • Dropping your student, a block or two away from the school will help to avoid congestion
  • Please do not use the parking garage as a drop-off location
  • Please be patient during the first few weeks of school, as traffic is typically heaviest while families adjust to their drop-off and pick-up routines.

Entering the School

Each school day, students must have their Student ID to enter the building. In the mornings, students may enter through the:

  • Emerson entrance (South side)
  • Westchester student entrance (East side), or
  • Door W14 on Douglas (West side) between Druid and Glenwick

After the first bell, all students must enter using the Westchester student entrance. Students will report directly to their 1st period class on their Skyward schedule.

All visitors and volunteers must enter through either the Westchester student entrance or the Emerson entrance, regardless of the time of day. A valid photo ID or a current 2025–2026 badge is required for entry.

Student Parking

Please see detailed parking information HERE and in the Kiltie.

Sophomores and Freshmen

Sophomores and freshmen are not allowed to park on ANY HPHS/HPISD property, space, or designated area.

Seniors and Juniors

Student campus parking is limited to seniors and juniors with a valid parking permit, and they may only park in their assigned spaces.

School Parking is enforced from 6:00 am- 3:30 pm on school days.

Violations: Sophomores and freshmen may not park on HPHS/HPISD property; a second violation results in towing at the owner’s expense, and further violations may lead to disciplinary action. Juniors and Seniors must park in their assigned space, and visitors and volunteers in spaces designated as such—second violations in either case will result in towing at the owner’s expense.

What to Do if Someone is in Your Space

Please follow the instructions found HERE.

Other Parking Spaces

Faculty parking spaces are numbered and off-limits to students, visitors, and volunteers.

Visitor and Volunteer parking is reserved and designated for visitors and volunteers only; it is not for students’ use.

Cafeteria

The HPHS Cafeteria will be open for breakfast and lunch starting on the first day of school, Wednesday, August 13. Breakfast is available from 7:30 – 8:20 am and lunch is served during 4th, 5th and 6th lunch periods.

Only seniors have the privilege of eating lunch off-campus, if they choose. Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors must eat on campus.

No outside food deliveries from parents or otherwise. For further cafeteria information please visit the HPHS Cafeteria page HERE and view menus HERE.

Fund your student's lunch account through Skyward prior to school starting! Find account funding instructions HERE.

Bring Your Own Devices (BYOD)

HPHS has a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program. Send your student to school with their fully-charged Chromebook, laptop, tablet or iPad that meets minimum specifications to use on campus for learning.

Cellphones and Other Communication Devices

Recently passed Texas House Bill 1481 requires local school districts to develop policies prohibiting the use of personal communication devices (cellphones, headphones/earbuds, smart glasses, watches, or other personal communication devises) on school property during the school day. At student registration and Fish Camp, each student was issued a Yondr Pouch, and the expectation is that students will keep their personal communication devices turned off and locked in the Yondr Pouch while on school property during the school day. Students will be able to unlock their pouches and use their devices after dismissal on their way out of the school. Unlocking Base Units are available for students who leave campus during the school day and need to unlock their pouches. Unlocking Base Units will be located at the Student Entrance, Front Entrance on Emerson and at Door W14. Please see the attached documents with information on the processes and procedures aligned to this new law.

The Supply Shop – Open during all Lunch Periods

Students may visit the Supply Shop in the Cafeteria each school day at lunch to purchase supplies, books, and fun treats. The Supply Shop is CASHLESS; however, you must have a physical credit or debit card to make purchases – NO Apple Pay. If your student wasn’t able to pick up their pre-purchased supplies or book bundles at Student Registration, they may do so in the Supply Shop. SPECIAL HOURS: The Supply Shop will be open in the mornings, August 13-22, from 7:30 am to 8:15 am and at lunchtime.

Volunteers at HPHS

Parents are encouraged to volunteer and serve our Scots!

Volunteers and visitors may park in designated visitor/volunteer parking spaces on Emerson and on the ground floor of the Westchester parking garage. Volunteers and visitors may enter the school from the Westchester Student Entrance or the Emerson entrance. Use the check-in kiosk to enter your contact information. If you have completed a security background check, you will be able to print your permanent “Volunteer” badge and will be given a badge holder. If you have not yet completed your background check, enter your contact information and present your driver’s license to the attendant. You will be able to print your temporary “Visitor” badge. If you did not complete your background check during BSSU, please complete it HERE. Background checks will be completed and batched once a week, on Thursdays.

You may sign up for a monthly HPHS Cafeteria and/or Supply Shop shift HERE. Thank you for modeling our “Enter to Learn; Go Forth to Serve” motto!
