Ohana means family. And we consider all our members part of a greater family, who share a common goal and help one another. | |
My dear beautiful Ohana family and friends:
As I sit in my office and re-cap the past few weeks, I am surprised at how fast time really does fly, especially when you are having fun!
Ohana’s services are growing! Our practitioner base includes: Bright Raven Psychotherapy with Brooke Bertrand & Kierra Brown, Nourish Wellness Spa with Krista Lauzon, holistic practitioner Jana Brogan, Belly Dancing with Fran, Yoga with Janice and Nicky, Satsang Talks with Walter Cechinni, Soul & Sound meditation/healing sessions with Karen Schiavone & Nicky, Crystal Journey Sound Bath with David Hickey, Dharma Breath with Jacqui Tracy, Drumming Circles with Dielle Raymond… Oh and did I mention an incredible Kirtan experience with international devotional singer Brenda McMorrow accompanied by Verdon Vaillancourt.
… phew and that is just what I remember off the top of my head!
Following the tradition of Ohana that "nobody gets left behind, we are all working together towards the same goals", Ohana is starting to restructure its community outreach program continuing to collect for different not-for-profit organizations monthly, hoping to not only offer some monetary donations or items in need, but also awareness.
You see, I truly feel that the past two years of covid have us a little out of touch and not sure where or how to help. For many of us the sense of community has been lost and for some, the feeling of being “alone” has amplified.
Below is a list of organizations we either have helped since May (or will be soon).
May: OUTLOUD North Bay & Near North Palliative Care Network
June: Callander and Area Food Bank
July: Mattawa Women’s Resource Centre
August/September (to make up for holiday closure): The Gathering Place North Bay
October: TBA
November: TBA
December: TBA
I want to leave you with this thought: the power of love in a positive, healthy community will overcome any and all obstacles that comes our way. When we walk with the greater good as our guide, we walk in the light for not just ourselves but for others!
I hug to the left… why? Because to hug on the left side of each other we must move into the “right” direction… the “right” direction brings us into the light… and our souls get to connect and share light.
Some may think that’s silly… but it feels “right” when we connect.
Thank you for being under “the roof of Ohana” and now at Ohana’s Grounding Point, to share your love and light. I am so grateful to all of you!
Many blessings with peace, light and love.
Om Shanti,
Nicky

OHANA HAS BEEN VERY BUSY!
June came and went in what seems like the blink of an eye. July is seeming to be on that same lightning speed path as well. Remember to take a breath and be in the moment, enjoy the summer air and sunshine!
Ohana has been working hard to bring you events and workshops that help you (and us) do just that.
Take a look at we have been up to!

Summer Solstice: A Soul & Sound Experience bringing in the Summer Solstice Sound Healing Meditation by Karen Schiavone as Nicky was unable to attend.
Thank you Karen, for holding the whole space, it was a beautiful experience for many.
"Your Sound healing workshop, I felt that one at my core for days. Your partner (Karen?) freaked me out by saying she was being told to tell me ‘Remember who you are. I’m still putting together what exactly that means but I know I needed to hear it."

Walter Cecchini brought us Satsang: A Community of Truth. Curiosity leads us towards the path of enlightenment and how to achieve enlightenment.
In search of our own divine relationship to the source Walter leads us on an investigation to the self "Our Home." Openly sharing his life experiences, knowledge, meditation practices and his own journey of seeking enlightenment, Walter gave us the opportunity for a heart centered experience, of truth, deep and connecting discussion, in a safe and thought-provoking group setting.
"I went to Walter’s talk with an open mind and heart. I didn’t know what to expect. What I got from our beautiful session was so pure and honest. Walter opened my mind to a new way of thinking about myself and others; and the connections we have with ourselves and all others on this earth."
"Walter was so welcoming. What I loved about him was his calming presence. He didn’t rush. He took time to think and to speak. Walter read his own poems that capture his inner journey, provided a guided meditation, told fascinating stories of his life and his career, and shared his wisdom in such a gentle way." S.
"It was an amazing afternoon with Walter, who inspired us to dig deep into our thoughts and feelings. I found it to be very healing to be able to share these inner feelings in a safe and beautiful environment. Even the deer came to listen." C.
All are welcome no matter what level of seeking you are at, a community of truth, openness and love is the intention, join us as, Walter continues to grow and nurture us with his next Satsang Series: Awakening to Your True Nature.

Our first Join Us At The Lake event was a smashing success! We could not have asked for a better day. The sun was shining, the birds were singing, and a deer joined us for Heart & Soul Yoga.
After a swim, lunch, and chatting with new friends, Walter Cecchini, hosted Satsang: A Community of Truth. The afternoon of stories, meditation, and open dialogue was thought-provoking and soul filling.
"Saturday was one of the loveliest, light filled days I've had. Thank you for inviting me to Walter's Satsang at The Grounding Point and for the most Magical Yoga I've experienced. I am supremely grateful." J.
"I have heard of yoga with goats but not yoga with deer. Just wow!" M.

Mountain Goat Yoga Centre opened their hearts and their studio to Karen Schiavone & Nicky Poulin for Summer Solstice - A Soul & Sound Experience.
What a wonderful opportunity to be able to share a new experience with new people. It was an amazing and humbling evening for all and looking forward to being with Mountain Goat Yoga again this coming fall!
Julie, your studio is lovely! Thank you for your trust and love! We are so grateful!

Brenda McMorrow blew our minds while cradling our souls at the same time! What an experience.
The Vocal Freedom Workshop was so powerful. The energy and power that filled the room was palatable. Brenda guided the group through mantras, chants and vocal meditations.
The Sacred Music Concert was fun, soul lifting and filled with beauty, not only vocally, also by the sense of community and love that danced in the air.
"I have never experienced anything like this. The Vocal Freedom Workshop left me feeling so connected to a group of total strangers, how is that even possible? The Sacred Music Concert left me filled with a new sense of wonder and a connection to something bigger and greater than myself. The day transformed me!"

For July we honour:
Mattawa Women's Resource Centre.
All proceeds from Saturday yoga classes, talks, workshops and events, will be donated to the MWRC. Please go to Mattawa Women (mwrc.ca) to learn more about what services are provided and how we can help as a community!
Here is just a part of what the MWRC does within the community!
Transitional Housing Program
The Community Transitional Housing Program is a bilingual program put in place to assist women and their children that are homeless, at risk of becoming homeless, or are victims of domestic violence. Potential clients could be living in the community or in an emergency shelter.
Referrals are accepted from all sources within the district who are wanting to live and seek services in Mattawa and area.
Outreach Services
Our outreach program offers community based information, resources, and supports to women and children who may require assistance away from the Centre. The focus is supporting those most in need in the community while promoting self-sufficiency and community involvement.
Within our outreach support program, we work under the vision that we reside in a community where every member has the opportunity to succeed. To bring that vision into reality, we provide resources and supports for community members in a way that fosters self-sufficiency.
Help with Legal Matters
The Mattawa Women’s Resource Centre can provide you with information regarding a variety of community resources including housing, employment, financial information and more. We understand that violence often creates compounding needs, and we seek to address women’s legal needs in a holistic way, which often includes more than just legal representation but also counseling and advocacy services.
Do not hesitate to contact us at (705)744-5567 for further information on how we can help.
Offering $20.00 (or what you can) and/or nonperishable food items, clothing (washed and in good condition), and small household items will go a long way! Giant Tiger or Dollar Store Gift Certificates are also welcome as well. If you have a larger items ie. bed, dresser, furniture etc., that will help to house someone please call the MWRC to see what would be needed, Ohana will arrange delivery. Nicky's cell call or text for possible delivery 705-493-0692
Each month Ohana will choose a different not-for-profit/organization to donate to.
These acts of kindness and generosity not only really help people in need, but they also lead to community building, as well as building our own personal strength and awareness. Making our community stronger one donation at a time!
