A LETTER FROM WASHINGTON D.C.

Dear reader,

For years, FQM has taken you inside remarkable places, introduced you to people and traditions, and shared stories that connect us across cultures. With Passport to Culture™, I wanted to take that experience one step further: what if you could do more than read about culture and actually participate in the discovery? Passport to Culture™ invites you to explore through stories, places, history, traditions, activities and challenges. You can test what you know, discover something unexpected, and experience a country, city or institution in a new way; wherever you are.

And the journey has already begun. Some of you have already purchased your first Passport, and I want to thank you. It is wonderful to see this new FQM initiative beginning to find its way into your hands.

This week also reminds us that culture is not only about what we inherit from the past. It is about the world we are creating. In one of our more unexpected stories, we look toward 2050 and the possibility of humanoid robots becoming part of everyday life; from our workplaces and hospitals to our homes. As machines become more human in the way they move and interact with us, the questions become deeply human too: Would we trust them? And what will we still want to remain uniquely ours?

Explore, learn and reflect. Thank you for continuing to explore the world with FQM. There is much more ahead.

YOUR PASSPORT. YOUR JOURNEY.

If you’ve already explored Passport to Culture™, what did you enjoy most?

EXHIBITION

Twenty-six masterpieces. One journey from Paris to Washington.

This fall, 26 masterpieces from the Musée du Louvre cross the Atlantic for their first presentation in the United States, and their only American stop. Opening September 26 at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Asian Art, their journey from Paris to Washington tells a larger story about art, history, and cultural diplomacy. Sometimes, diplomacy begins when a masterpiece crosses a border.

INNOVATION

What happens when the robot at the door looks back at you?

By 2050, humanoid robots could be working in our homes, hospitals, factories and even in space. Some may walk, speak and interact with us in increasingly human ways. But the most compelling questions may not be about what robots can do, but about what we will allow them to do. Would you trust one in your home? Could a machine ever replace human care? And as robots become more like us, what will we still want to remain uniquely human?

MEDIA

Celebrating those who bring journalism to life.

What does great journalism require? Curiosity. Courage. Accuracy. Persistence. And above all, trust. At the National Press Club Journalism Awards Dinner in Washington, D.C., those values came to life through stories ranging from breaking news and international affairs to investigative reporting, culture, photography, and the work of a new generation of journalists. A celebration not simply of awards, but of why journalism matters.

TRAVEL

Sometimes, the detour tells the better story.

Beyond America’s famous landmarks lies another country waiting to be discovered: historic homes, forgotten neighborhoods, independent museums, old theaters, and places whose stories nearly disappeared. In America’s 250th year, FQM takes the smaller road to explore the places that remind us that history is often found where we least expect it.

FASHION

Before the runway, there is the craft.

Before Paris Fashion Week becomes spectacle, it begins with skilled hands. From embroidery and featherwork to emerging designers challenging the codes of established maisons, FQM looks behind the runway at the craftsmanship, heritage, and reinvention shaping the future of luxury. What will Paris tell us about what luxury is becoming next?
