Hello Climate Creatives,

In January I heard my dear friend Nancy play with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. It was a transformative event - I suddenly felt the full power of classical music for the first time, reminding me how art can touch people and why I use it to drive a paradigm shift in climate action. The moment of my "conversion" was the finale of Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition - which I think might be the birth of rock 'n roll - although the entire concert was extraordinary. The concert became an excuse to gather friends, reminding me too of the importance of community and the power of experiencing art together.

With Spring's arrival, renew and cultivate your communities, and expand your climate conversations. Data shows that talking about climate change DOES move the dial - see the article below on how and why. We will continue to provide art experiences to stimulate more conversation, at the office, with friends, and in your communities.

Keep talking!!

Warmly,

Susan Israel, Founder and President

The Science of What Makes People Care

This article was sent by Nancy-the-violinist as affirmation and a scientific basis for what we are doing. Published in the Stanford Social Innovation Review, this article is highly informative. I developed our techniques based on trial and error, observation, and gut instinct. It's great to have science back it all up! Read it here.

Stop washing your clothes so much!

Nancy also sent this article around to her friends:

Why you should almost always wash your clothes on cold - And while you’re at it, don’t wash them so much, by Allyson Chiu.

When I looked it up, I discovered a wonderful resource in these articles by Allyson Chiu for the Washington Post. Talking about climate change works...if you approach people where they are, stay positive, and offer specific actions they can take immediately. Check out more articles by Allyson Chiu here, and share them in your networks.

Aren't you just being a Pollyanna?

World on ‘thin ice’ as UN climate report gives stark warning,

By SETH BORENSTEIN and FRANK JORDANS, The Associated Press

Don't get me wrong, we still need urgent and hard messages like this which apply pressure to achieve a paradigm shift using policy and institutional change. Businesses must continue to get on board, and we cannot afford to have progress blocked by reactionary self-interest. So yes, we certainly need this information too. Knowing who you are addressing and what you want to achieve will guide your messaging.
