A career public servant, Michael C. Houston has been a government auditor and investigator for 17 years. He first worked as a performance auditor for the City of San Jose’s independent City Auditor’s Office from 2008 to 2017 and then as the Director of Compliance and Internal Control at California State University East Bay, where he directed the audit and investigation functions between 2017 and 2019.

Michael has worked in the Oakland City Auditor’s Office since 2019, initially serving as the Whistleblower Program Manager and then as the Assistant City Auditor. In a March 2024 Special Election, Michael was elected to complete the term of the previous City Auditor, who resigned on October 13, 2023.

Michael has a Master of Public Policy degree from U.C. Berkeley, a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Sonoma State University, and is a Certified Internal Auditor.

Michael C. Houston, funcionario público de carrera, ha sido auditor e investigador del gobierno durante 17 años. Trabajó primero como auditor de rendimiento para la Oficina del Auditor Municipal independiente de la ciudad de San José entre 2008 y 2017, y luego como director de Cumplimiento y Control Interno en la Universidad Estatal de California en East Bay, donde dirigió las funciones de auditoría e investigación entre 2017 y 2019. 

Michael trabaja en la Oficina del Auditor de la Ciudad de Oakland desde 2019, inicialmente como director del Programa de Denuncia de Irregularidades y luego como auditor municipal adjunto. En las elecciones especiales de marzo de 2024, Michael fue elegido para completar el mandato del anterior auditor municipal, que dimitió el 13 de octubre de 2023. 

Michael tiene su maestría en Políticas Públicas de la Universidad de California en Berkeley, su licenciatura en Historia de la Universidad Estatal de Sonoma y es un auditor interno certificado.
