From The Editor: Often it’s easy to take for granted the familiar--knowing is not the same as experiencing. Such was the case this past Tuesday at the Hollywood Bowl. There’s something for everyone in the selection of music offered each year at the Bowl. However, for me, the magic of the Bowl occurs with the classics. Gershwin’s “Rapsody In Blue” soared as Dalia Stasevska conducted the LA Phil. What a treat it was to witness Hayato Sumino’s piano virtuosity as they brought forth this American symphony culminating in multiple standing ovations. Sumino’s return for an encore and an incredibly exuberant rendition of Gershwin’s “I’ve Got Rhythm” left the audience breathless. Coupled with Dvorak’s Symphony No 9 “From The New World,” following intermission was a perfect ending. What a night. Don’t let the summer pass without experiencing the magic of our Hollywood Bowl.
