What Works for our Workforce

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

In just under one month, we’ll gather at Wilmington University for our Superstars in Education and Training Awards program on May 8th, and I hope you attend this exciting event!

Some of the most innovative education and training programs are recognized each year through our Superstars in Education and Training program, which shines a spotlight on programs that work. Our awards program allows for others to understand the importance and impact of workforce programs, and how they too can assist in the effort of building up Delaware’s most important resource—our people. Our hope is that these programs can be replicated in other schools and industries so that we, as a state, continue building talent pipelines.

If you are an employer that has tapped a talent pipeline at a school or training provider and believe they are worthy or recognition, please let us know. Or, if you are an employer and have an in-house training program that others could replicate, share it with us.

Employers need people, that much is understood. But employers need people with an ever-changing and frequently evolving skill set to match the challenges and changes they’re experiencing in the markets they serve. Success in the future will go to the states that ready their workforce, keep up with changes, and remain fresh in the face of the evolving, dynamic, and sometimes disruptive world of business. It’s an exciting time. The opportunity is now.

News You Can Use

Important economic news kicks off this week with wholesale inventory data from February. Tomorrow we see the NFIB optimism index from March, and gather insights from speeches made by three fed presidents, including Philadelphia Fed President Patrick Harker. On Wednesday we’ll learn of March results from the Consumer Price Index and associated data that compares this time with the same period last year. Also on Wednesday is the release of the Fed FOMC minutes from their last meeting. Thursday brings us initial jobs data for the first two weeks of this month, followed on Friday with March retail sales, import prices, and industrial production.

Earnings calls this week starts off slowly and includes PriceSmart and Tilray later today, joined by Albertsons and CarMax on Tuesday. Bed Bath & Beyond and Sportsman’s Warehouse are on tap for Wednesday. Thursday’s headliner is Delta Air Lines, followed on Friday by several State Chamber members, including JPMorgan Chase, PNC, Wells Fargo, and Citigroup.
