What You Need to Know About COVID-19 and Rentals

This week began the Reopening Phase II (Step 1) in Massachusetts. One of the impacted industries in this phase is "Lodging," which includes hotels, motels, inns, bed and breakfast accommodations, and all other short-term residential rentals, including those arranged through online hosting platforms such as Airbnb and VRBO.

We wanted to share the safety protocols "lodging" operators must adhere to so you can comply if you rent your home or have an understanding of what you should expect if you rent from others in MA.

Some critical points for operators of unstaffed individual unit facilities (i.e., short-term home or apartment rentals). Each is required:

to comply with the hygiene standards specified
adhere to minimum periods of separation between rentals
to inform guests at the time a reservation is made and at check-in of the Commonwealth’s policy urging travelers to self-quarantine for 14 days when arriving in Massachusetts from out of state.
