Fire & Ice

Ice out records - May 3 South Leland, May 5 Andrew Lake and early June at Lynx Lake .The hot and dry weather continued and fires popped up across the north. The fires grew and spread all summer. Heavy smoke on some days made it impossible to fly. Our main floatplane base and town of Fort Smith, were evacuated on August 12 and did not reopen until September 18. We adapted and rerouted guests through Fort McMurray.

Hard work by brave fire crews protected the town of Fort Smith and our nearby floatplane base.

Hunting

For our moose rut hunts, we were thrilled to have hunters returning for the 20th, 14th and 4th hunt with us as well as others for their very first trip. Extra challenges this year with forest fires. smoke, evacuations and Fort Smith town closure. As always, we adapt and persevere. Thank you to our great guests. Countdown to new 2024 season is on!

The Project list

We are always busy working on improving our facilities and this year we expanded our solar & battery systems at Andrew, Leland and Lynx, made improvements to the cabins and lodges. In addition added an ATV / firewood shed at Andrew. With our remote locations it is always a challenge to get equipment and supplies and we are always planning for future years.

The Team!

Having great staff at Andrew Lake Lodge & Camps is paramount to our success and guest satisfaction. Our dedicated team ensures a warm welcome, exceptional service, and expert guidance for outdoor adventures, creating unforgettable experiences.

Jim Kirkman - it started in 2001 when Jim came up as a guest when he joined joined some friends on a trip with us. Years later after a return trip and having more time available, he thought it would make a nice place to be after being retired. Over a decade later and many expansion and and improvement projects, we are grateful for his contribution. His love for being up north and hosting guests, keeps him looking forward to the next season.

Robert Ford

A neighbour and good friend of Jim's, Robert had heard of these northern adventures from Jim for years. He has joined in the action helping us out the last couple of seasons and we enjoy having him with us.

Carol Wettlaufer

Carol is Dan's mother and she is always eager to start a new season and help out at Andrew Lake. Next year she hopes to get more Muskox encounters in up at Lynx lake.

Ken Davies

Besides being our main host at Lynx lake, Ken is Dan's uncle. He has been instrumental in the construction at the lodge and has a hobby project of "The Tundra files" a detailed diary of all the amazing events of his days up north.

The Tundra Experience!

The magnificent landscape was the stage for incredible sports fishing and adventure. Our Muskox herds have been growing and some were hanging out around the lodge. Canoeists, photography groups and Aurora seekers were not disappointed with the vivid colours throughout the season day and night.
