LUCA CONNECT: SEPTEMBER 2026

A Night to Remember. A Community to Celebrate.

Our 14th Annual Pathways to Brilliance Gala

What an incredible evening!

On September 24, our LUCA community came together for our 14th Annual Pathways to Brilliance Gala, and what a celebration it was! We welcomed longtime friends, devoted volunteers, generous supporters, and so many new faces who experienced the magic of LUCA for the very first time.

But the real stars of the evening? Our Scholars.

One of the most memorable moments was our Scholar March, as students proudly entered carrying pennants of colleges and universities. Each pennant represented an extraordinary journey, countless hours of hard work, and a future filled with possibility.

Throughout the evening, our Scholars shared their stories, connected with guests, and gave everyone a chance to meet the remarkable young people at the heart of LUCA's mission.

We were also treated to a beautiful musical performance by one of our very own Scholar alumni, Alondra Vallejo, and now a Social Media & Culture Analyst at Danone USA.

The evening also gave us the opportunity to celebrate an extraordinary group of honorees whose leadership, service, and support have made a lasting difference for LUCA and our Scholars. We were proud to recognize Andrea Beltran Ruggiero of Open Door Care Network, Carrie Kaplan, Danone USA, LUCA alum Lisseth Cabrera, and James Cotto Wealth Management Group. Their commitment to our mission, and their generous support of our Scholars, helped make this year’s Gala especially meaningful.

There was plenty of laughter, dancing, celebration, and, most importantly, a room full of people who believe in what these students can accomplish.

To everyone who joined us, sponsored the evening, raised a paddle, volunteered, or supported our Gala from afar: THANK YOU.

And to the many new friends we made that evening, welcome to the LUCA family!
We are delighted you're here. Your support helps ensure that talented, first-generation students have the guidance, mentorship, and resources they need to navigate college, earn their degrees, and prepare for successful entry into the workforce. What a difference this community is making. And what a night to celebrate it!

Relive some of our favorite moments from the evening!

The College Tour That Came Full Circle

LUCA Scholars show the next generation what's possible.

Imagine visiting Yale University for the first time and discovering that your tour guide was once in your shoes. That's exactly what happened when we recently took a van full of LUCA Scholars to Yale.

Their campus tour was led by one of our own LUCA College Scholars, who was joined by other LUCA Scholars currently attending the university.

Our visiting students didn't just get to see a beautiful campus. They had the opportunity to connect with students who share their experiences, understand their journeys, and are now navigating life at one of the country's most selective universities.

There is something especially powerful about seeing someone who was once in your position thriving in a place you dream of attending.

These are the moments your support makes possible. From helping students explore their college options to surrounding them with a community of peers and mentors, LUCA is there every step of the way.

And perhaps the most exciting part? Today's visiting Scholars may one day be the ones welcoming the next generation.

More than 60 Parents.
So Many Important Questions.

Helping first-generation families navigate college financial aid.

For families navigating the college admissions process for the first time, understanding financial aid can be overwhelming. Where do you begin? How do you complete the FAFSA? What financial assistance is available, and how do you know what your family can afford?

On Saturday, September 19, more than 60 parents joined us at SUNY Purchase for our Padres Charla, where they had the opportunity to ask questions, receive guidance, and learn more about the financial aid process.

For many of these parents, helping their children pursue a college education means navigating an unfamiliar system. Having access to trusted information, culturally relevant resources, and people who can answer their questions makes an enormous difference.

We are grateful to SUNY Purchase for hosting us and helping make this important gathering possible.

When parents have the information and confidence to support their children, the entire family moves forward.

Good News for Families in Sleepy Hollow
and Tarrytown

We're thrilled to share that the Kids' Club of Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow has awarded LUCA a $4,000 grant to bring FAFSA assistance and additional bilingual community college workshops to families in Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown.

This investment will help us reach more families with practical guidance as they navigate college admissions and financial aid, bringing important resources directly into their communities.

Our sincere thanks to the Kids' Club of Tarrytown for recognizing the importance of supporting first-generation students and their families.
