Summer Recap - A Season of Growth and Connection

This summer has been an exciting and fulfilling time for Nature Worx! Our summer was packed with activities, especially with children aged 4-12 at the Y of Abingdon and Harford County Parks and Rec summer camps. Through sensory exploration, scavenger hunts, and nature walks, we helped kids connect with the environment and experience the beauty of the forest firsthand. We also held public sessions for families in conjunction with Harford County Public Library.

In addition to these programs, we offered sessions for teens through The Clubhouse by Ashley and collaborated with Pivot Point Counseling and Springboard Community Services to extend our nature therapy to those who need it most. We also continued our work with clients at Anna’s House, bringing the healing power of nature to those in transitional living spaces.

A big part of our summer has been spent preparing to launch a pilot program this fall in partnership with Harford County Public Schools at Joppatowne High School and Edgewood Middle. This initiative will help boost students' mental health through nature-based activities, including bilingual sessions for our Spanish-speaking community.

It’s been a busy, wonderful summer, and we’re excited for what’s to come this fall!

Discover the Gem that is Masonville Cove

Baltimore City has several amazing green spaces, but none so impressive as the Masonville Cove Urban Wildlife Refuge Partnership, the first of its kind in the nation. This waterfront 50-acre oasis is home to more than 300 species of animals, including deer, foxes, coyotes and the first known nesting pair of bald eagles within Baltimore City. There are walking trails for birdwatching, a fishing pier and a beach for launching kayaks.

Nature Worx has been fortunate to partner with the Living Classrooms Foundation since 2021 to provide our programs at Masonville Cove. This fall, we are looking forward to several exciting initiatives at Masonville. All are free of charge!

"Wildlife of Eden Mill" at the Liriodendron

Our long-time guide, Frank Marsden, has been showcasing his stunning wildlife photography at the Liriodendron Mansion in Bel Air. The exhibition, Wildlife of Eden Mill, beautifully captures the essence of nature that we at Nature Worx aim to share with everyone. Frank helped found the Eden Mill Nature Center in Pylesville over 30 years ago and has spent his life devoted to learning and teaching about our local wildlife. His work is a testament to the deep connections we hope to inspire in all who participate in our programs.

The exhibit has been so popular that it's been extended through September. Frank's photographs will be on view every Wednesday through September 25 from 1 to 6 pm, and on Sunday, September 8 from 11 to 3. Stop by and enjoy!
